TToT -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

“A broken tree crawls towards the forest to die.”

“It’s way blocked by a mortally-wounded comrade.”

Glad you could stop by. Please feel comfortable joining us. Josie Two Shoes, our administratrix, does a phenomenal job each week providing a stable platform for the bloghop known as the TToT (Ten Things of Thankful). The premise is simple. Post a list of ten(ish) things that make you think, ‘hey! I’m glad that...’  It’s a gratitude blog but with a difference. (To describe in detail the elements and facets that make this ‘hop stand out against an admittedly crowded field of bloghops would take the fun out, right? I mean, it’s not like there’s anything tricky or devious or challenging to learn. We don’t even require dress-code. And…and! we can mention the Secret Book of Rules (aka the Book of Secret Rules) right up front. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. In any event, welcome. Watch for a special offer in one of the items.)

1) We had a ‘Nor’easter. Winds were sufficient to take down power lines along the coast line and trees on our property. (Well, that’s kind of a hypograt, come to think of it. Whatever.)

2) We have a generator. That square thing in the first photo, to the right of the garage door.

3) Not one but two trees fell down on the ground. A hypo-grat but…. they both missed Phyllis’ car (in the dark green enclosure). And didn’t block the driveway.

4) I’m kind of weird about physical condition and exercise and such. But I got out my pole saw and clippers and a couple of hours later…

“Root-bound dinosaurs, awaiting a shroud of stone to preserve their memory.”

5) Phyllis was there, of course. (Una was on her perch on the back of the couch in front of the window, supervising.)

“Phyllis, head bowed, accompanies the dead to their final resting place.”

6) Not as worried as she might look. Not a fan of generators and such.

“Una wonders, for the millionth time, how it is the humans can claim the top of the evolutionary ladder, and returns to patiently watching their backs.”

7) Sunday Supplement

‘The proverbial ‘After’.’

8) THIS SPACE AVAILABLE! [enquire within] Got the urge to join in but don’t think you’re ready to go the whole magilla?* Then send us a comment and we’ll be happy to include it here, in this space, with as much attribution as you would like.

9) *Being a clark, it will come as no surprise to see me include the internet as a near perpetual list item.  This asterix is the perfect example: as I wrote #8 I thought, ‘the full magilla’ now there’s an expression I haven’t heard since,  like the ’70s. Being a clark, I thought, well lets go check!

And what did I find out? I had the spelling incorrect but that was only the start of the fun!  Here, in what I trust is consistent with the Doctrine of Fair Use, is what they said:

“It’s really spelled megillah, and it’s the Hebrew word for a scroll. In particular, it refers to one of five books of the Old Testament, namely Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, and Esther, which are read on certain Jewish special days…”  (our Friends at World Wide Words )

Yes, quite cool

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Happy TToT! Haha. I’m grateful that neither of those trees hit Phyllis’ car! I heard about that noreaster, and saw that the winds can reach hurricane strength now…but I didn’t realize you’d get it, too. You are close to Massachusetts, though. haha.
Those pics were very interesting to see!

      It was good exercise (yesterday).
Now for the real fun…. chainsaw! (Surely the single most fun and dangerous tool that can be bought without proving competence before purchase!)
      lol

  2. Having lived through hurricanes, i especially join you in being thankful that you had a generator and did not get any trees in the house or on the vehicles.

  3. A very cool TToT indeed, Clark! You always have such an interesting array of grats, and a delightful way with words, and… we get to see Phyllis and Una!

I join you in being extra grateful that the winds didn’t do even more damage, though I’m sad for the trees it took down. Could have damaged the car or the house, so we can be grateful for what didn’t happen. (I think I need to do an entire post of what didn’t happen grats sometime soon).

A generator, though most assuredly noisy, is a true blessing at times like this. We have one too, and it comes in very handy if the power goes out. We realized the need for one after a three day outage one winter, and the gracious loan of one from Papa Bear’s boss.

I’m glad you were able to rip those tree branches, that would be a pretty strenuous task in my book, and that Phyllis was there to help haul them off. The supervisor does indeed look a bit worried about the whole thing and was probably glad when mom and dad were both safely back inside with her, and the noisy generator off.

I had never heard the expression “the full megillah” and now, thanks to you, and to the Internet, I’ve learned a new word today! There is not a day I don’t marvel at what the Internet and our access capabilities have brought to our lives. I used to fantasize about dragging my big desktop computer along on vacations, etc. Now my tablet, and of course my phone accompany me with ease. And Google… much as it has some attitude problems, is a resource I use daily too.

Your TToT posts would not be complete without at least one Secret Rule reference aptly applied, and I love them! :-) I’ll be back at the beginning of the week to see what’s up with #7 and 8. Gotta be some brave soul out there eager to have a little input!

Thank you for your faithful support of the TToT, I always look forward to coming here! Have a wonderful and warmer week ahead!

  4. Hey, no complaints from me about the wind yesterday. We were lucky and did not loose power while many in the area did. It sure does suck, generator or not.
    Glad Phyllis’s mini was safe!
    No snow! That’s a plus right?:D
And look at you!! Ya got plenty of stuff to keep you in shape for at least a coupla weeks :)

  5. P.S. Really like the picture for the post on home screen.

Meshugana – crazy person. LOL, my favorite Hebrew expression. And that is the way you spell it. I’m glad you had just a few trees down and Phyllis’s car was safe. When storms happen, it’s an especially good time to say – it could have been so much worse.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

…but on the plus side, I did get some exercise. (I can’t seem to get genuine, sweating-through-your-clothes-elevated-cardiovascular exercise unless ‘I have to’… meaning: there’s the tree, get rid of it.) Exercise equipment (at home or in a gym) is just too… forgiving. lol)

  7. MindOverMeta says:

Are you sure it was you that broke the branch up, or was it actually Una who chewed through it?? Don’t be denying her credit! Glad you all escaped unscathed from the winds.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

lol she would have, too. (Actually most of the trees on our property are pine and the sap can be a real pain the neck for Una…getting on her paws which is does not enjoy)

  8. 15andmeowing says:

Nice list of thankfuls. I like how you find the silver lining in the clouds like trees fell, but not on the house :)

  9. Kristi says:

While Una might not be a fan of generators, how nice that you have one. Glad the trees didn’t do damage. I always enjoy seeing before and after photos, and your descriptions were amusing.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

thanks Kristi… the before and after thing is made for photography, (even though there is that feeling you get when you’ve managed to alter something big, a part of that ‘feeling’, is the change in a level of detail in our memory that we don’t consciously take note of, but feel the effect of).

  10. herheadache says:

Meshugana. Haha. I love the little surprises you insert into your TToT posts Clark. Good info.

    Crazy weather, eh?

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

yeah… I was totally surprised as well (by the words) but thats really the coolest thing about the internet, at least for clarks… an endless supply of information of all sorts.

we’re back to snow on the ground. but, being March it’s not destined to remain for long. which is a good thing.
