Six Sentence Story -the Wakefield Doctrine- ‘it is often darkest before the night’

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

This is Thursday. Thursday is the day we see around us. The sun also rises, despite it being Thursday. When Thursday comes, Wednesday flees in shame. Thursday is more that Tuesday with an overly-developed sense of self. Thursday is the ‘now-I-left-the-number-we-can-be-reached-on-the-refrigerator-but-only-in-a-real-emergency’ Day of the Workweek. (Six!)

This has been a test. It was only a test. Had it been a real Six Sentence Story, you would have been directed to zoe’s site (uncharted) and a link to the real Six Sentence Story provided. And, blockquotes. A real Six would be all kinds of blockquotes.

(taking a certain liberty, this week’s Six is also a scene from the upcoming Chapter 8 of ‘Almira‘) (hope Doug don’t be mindin)

“But Mom!! I don’t want to go out with ‘that very nice Hughes boy!’

Becky Stillworth stood facing her closet and sighed, to the left, her reflection smiled self-consciously.

Confronted with a mute row of clothes hangers and rounded stacks of too-big sweaters on the shelf above, she smiled back with what she hoped was a look of self-confidence, but suspected it was more one of resignation. Becky wanted to believe that finding the perfect outfit would increase her chances of being mistaken for a girl just like the other girls in the 11th Grade, complete with an aggressively optimistic attitude that her appearance would undo how uncertain she felt.

16-year-old Becky, at 5 feet 2 inches tall 110 pounds was the physical embodiment of every adolescent boy’s day dreamed fantasy, while being gifted with an intellect and intelligence that seem to cause surprise in everyone, especially her parents. Paradoxically, flaunting her newly developing body was easier on those around her than would her challenging them with her intellectual prowess.

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

    Now I’m very confused

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

lol sorry, man…. it’s the Six, not you

I thought that a little vignette (as opposed, I suppose to a little vinaigrette) might be fun…. unless…shit! did I miscount again!!?!? more than 6

  2. oldegg says:

Adolescence that wonderful age of hope and disappointment; of brashness and shyness. I wonder whether parents forget they too were teenagers and felt the same way…confused! It’s over 60 years since I was one yet the highs and lows are still vivid in my mind.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

that’s it exactly! adults (some…maybe a lot) forget that being young is more than just ‘not being old’ it’s a different world

  3. Poor Becky! Caught between 2 worlds and a part of neither. How can she reconcile her intellectual drive with the drive of her 16 year self? Does she really want to?
How common the experience to please parents over self in an effort to prove we fit in with our peers…

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

Becky’ll do alright… but that Randall Hughes guy, not so sure about him

  4. valj2750 says:

Excellent within the context of Almira. Young girls learn the art of seduction as a young age because our society looks more positively on a pretty girl than an intelligent one. Great story, Clark. You always amaze me with your perceptions.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

thanks (I wanted to use that scene, cause of the gender thing… trying to write from her perspective) I will give all credit to one certain Doctrine that I’m a huge fan of

  5. ivywalker says:

A most wonderful enjoyable and illusory six. You really managed to capture a paradoxical life transition here….wow….snooty commentationing much zoe? Too many big words! Lol….i have time coming up to read . I really am looking forward to it

Why, absolutely not my dear Ms. Walker, I assure you that your perception is most perspicacious and fully appreciated! I say, would you care to sit in the Library, I would love to have Edmondington bring us something to eat as we sit among the Rare Collections and Limited Edition Gutenberg Bible. May I offer you a bowl of Fruit Loops? Or perhaps Frost Flakes would be more to your liking. I totally concur with Mr. Tiger, they are indeed, GRRREat!
