Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
Today is a Six Sentence Story Post. Presented by, Friend of the Doctrine zoe, the Six Sentence Story challenges us to take a single word and write a story around it. And the story must be Six Sentences long. No more and no less. It’s fun! …just like taking Miller Analogy Test was fun, like going on the first blind date was fun, like being asked to make the toast/give the eulogy/respond to a friend’s desperate plea for help was/is fun.
“I’d like a little time to think it over, if you don’t mind,” her tone was pleading, the look in her eyes challenging, just a blink from confrontational.
“No, no! I want you to take your time, it was never my intention to make you feel pressured! Take as much time as you need!” resentful, the look in his eyes: fear.
“As long as you know that, whatever happens, I’ll always love you” she said with an urgency that belied the resignation that seemed to echo the words, standing with her back to him, looking out over the patio to ocean.
“I know and I’ll never forget this” he said, a failed attempt to cover the thought, ‘…or forgive myself’.
“Madam, Monsieur? Your table is ready,” the maitre d’ spoke with an air of assured command that served to welcome, apologize to and re-assure many an impatient guest.
“Please accept our regrets over the mix-up with your reservation, I assure you everything will be just as you had hoped.“
Huh. Interesting. I was totally looking for the scott and the clark in this interaction. lolol
Hope you’re good! House transition should be nearing completion this weekend. :P
great news (looking forward to “Before” “After” photos…!)
you and Michelle seem to see something (in the story) that, while I wasn’t thinking consciously of it, I tend to agree as to personality types.
First: Beautifully written. Secondly, I think the guy’s a Clark and the lady, a scott!
thank you
great call on the personality types
Totally thought that, too, Michelle! hahaha
lol… damn! so much for subtly digging around in my brain, re-writing experiences and passing it off as creative fiction writing!
I love how your stories always invite comment re peoples personality types! This was awesome! You really got this down for a eulogy hating kinda guy!
thanks… the really (potentially dis-quieting question is) how inevitable/un-avoidable are (the) echoes of life experiences when trying to write?
I know it’s rude to say your stories surprise me in a very pleasant way, but it’s true!
you can’t be rude…. you’re a scott*
* and that’s because it’s intent that makes rude a bad thing (which is rarely ever the case with scotts), good/not-mean intent is just…I don’t know, the puppy who jumps up with muddy paws, or the small child who bursts in parents bedroom with a alert to a noise in the night…. you know…. one of the surprises that make life interesting (in a good way).
You romantic you.
lol… but but! that’s not possible, I’m a clark!
One of these days I’m really going to have to read more about the Wakefield Doctrine, and go back and reread what I already read. As for now, I enjoyed the Six Sentence Story you shared by zoe.
thank you
… (it’s a fun way to help a person to ‘see the world as the other person is experiencing it’) which not everyone feels a need to, but most people I meet around here seem to have an insatiable appetite for curious ideas and interesting perspectives.
While everyone seems to be commenting about scotts and clarks, I think that it is not necessary to be familiar with the Wakefield Doctrine to have this piece resonate. I find myself hoping she doesn’t take too long to say yes!
…agree, however, I’m finding it hard to not see that, even when not directly used, there is very much an echo of my own life experiences showing in the these Sixes…. (of course, as I read this, I recognize that it should not be a surprise, where else would our influences come from, if not our own realities, directly or otherwise.)
