Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers) for our second frickin Christmas!
Damn… a whole year!
Those of you who have been with us over the last 12 months, no doubt feel the same sense of astonished appreciation that seems to come with every Doctrine Post at this time of year. And since the Christmas Season, in this culture at any rate, conveys a certain license to those of us not gifted with the ability to clearly convey emotions, let me at least try to say how much we have enjoyed the benefit of the people associated with this here blog here.
It is not so much what the people here at the Wakefield Doctrine have done over the past year, rather it is how much they have taken this thing to be theirs and (conversely) given of themselves to it; all in ways while not spectacular nor dramatic or grand, are somehow more impressive. I am most grateful for what appears, from my clarklike perspective, to be the natural assumption of being a part of that all the DownSprings and Progenitors and Friends of the Doctrine show in what they have written and said and contributed to the Wakfield Doctrine. More a job for the roger to express, I am nonetheless moved. And I will say simply, that I feel that no matter what we do in the coming year, my life is immeasurably better for having met and been a part of this blog with all the people involved.

(coming from you) I am taking this (above quote) as a total compliment…it is not the easiest thing to do (to disturb a scott) and therein lies both the point of this (current) effort and the reinforcement of it.
I will indulge in my clarklike desire to explain things (which includes explaining things without prompting, thereby reducing the value of the thing at the center of the explanation)…but wtf, I am a clark.
In one of our many discussions ‘driving to Wakefield’, (said trips being of inestimable value), you have said of the scottian nature, “what is a lot of fun is to fuck with somebody in a way that they don’t realise that they are being fucked with” or words to that effect.
Let me state categorically that none of what is going on is a deliberate, conscious effort to ‘fuck with’ anyone. However, when I read your reaction to one of the aspects of this (above) I can’t help but think, “Damn, I am affecting a scott differently! I am being seen/reacted to differently. Maybe not the annoying rogerian way, but apparently not in the dry, clever, interesting-but-easily-ignored way of a clark. Sumpin’s up.”
Thank you for the input…this is, no matter what individuals here may do from one Post to the next, never forget that this is, the theory of clarks and scotts and rogers yo.
Hey, most people as they get older cut back on the exciting, interesting, challenging and/or annoying activities. Us mutants at the Doctrine, we laugh at the conservative impulse of age. Instead we say, HTFU.

Well…I’m working today. Did a favor for a guy with small kids at home. I work most holidays, and actually kind of like it. So a roger gets more like a clark, a clark gets more like a roger ( BTW, nice job, there, homey ), and the sense of movement on the fringe scares the piss out of a scott. Don’t fret, dude, that’s just the sound of you maturing, even if reluctantly. No one thinks less of you for it. Hey, does anybody want to start trading Christmas cookie recipes?

I don’t remember exactly when things shifted for me and Christmas Day turned into my New Year’s Day as well. I think it may have been many moons ago when I was working as a music store manager and we kept having people come in at Christmas time looking for the Christmas CD containing John Lennon’s Happy Christmas(War Is Over). I sure got tired of telling people that it was not on a Christmas CD. ( Note: the Alarm does a most respectable rendition on The Coolest Christmas CD. ) It has since become one of my all time favorite of holiday songs. In fact, was the song that tipped the tide as they say.

I have to leave now to work at the grocery store from hell and when I get back….why there need to be words added to “this here blog here” for today (to quote Bill Murray’s character Frank Cross in Scrooged referring to Christmas Eve):

I recall in the dream I was in complete disbelief that he was there!

And you got one with BIg Sandy as a guest singer. (because everyone knows Los Straitjackets don’t sing). They are “America’s Rock and Roll Instrumental Ensemble”. And Big Sandy is the founder and leader of his own groundbreaking rockabilly band:Big Sandy and the Fly-Rite Boys. My two favorite bands–and you combined them in one vid. I even (kind of) liked the Mumford and Sons one after it—kind of. That IS some cat by the way! A cat and a half. Cat.5 as you used to say. I hear him purring. That fucker. What the fuck is he up to?
