Six Sentence Story -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

What an interesting, (in that synchrondipitous way that tempts us into believing in, the not-easily-believable), coincidence! Ch ch ch changes, indeed!

Early evening Wednesday and I’m posting an Office photo to prove my whereabouts.

Not so early Thursday…

He opened his eyes, Lake Michigan to the fore and a couple of skyscrapers to the left of his field of view. It’s not that he didn’t know where he was, he simply was not yet, mentally prepared to appreciate where he was, such was the non-remembered path that lead to this bed.

That alcohol and hormones played the dominant role in his decision-making, did not seem to warrant consideration.

The remnants of both lingered, like cigarette butts stubbed out in leftover food on a bone china dinner plate, still unmistakable in their allure, deprived of their overwhelming power by the forced maturity of the early morning light. Fortunately, (or not, depends on one’s perspective), Stephen was still in his bullet-proof 20s, imbued by his gender to view a night un-recalled as a promise of remembered pleasure rather than lurking regret.

Even the blanks in the hours from late-in-the-evening to now-in-the-morning, and despite how they represented a total change in his plans for his first night back in his hometown, Stephen Eddington felt the iron-clad confidence of the young person with their first credit card.

Seeing how this un-intended coincidence hardly ever happens, I’ll divert from the norm and include a music video. Good music and an insurance policy of conformity to zoe’s requirements for (a) Six Sentence Story:

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

  1. messymimi says:

Thankfully i’ve never awakened in this kind of situation. Let’s hope he doesn’t end up with a lingering regret or two showing up later!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

we’re rooting for our young engineer! (he needs the support more than Anya, I suspect)

  2. Excellent! I look forward to reading Chapter 14 of Blogdominion! Well done.

    David. *sigh*

  3. valj2750 says:

Fantastic. Loved the vivid imagery of the cigarette butts in the china dish. Anya strikes, and Stephen doesn’t know what hit him. This post is a tantalizing segue between Chapter 13 and 14. I’m clapping my hands.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

Thanks Val…. I agree, with the (slight) filigree that he doesn’t know that he doesn’t know what hit him, because he thinks he knows how it was that he should end up where he had ended up….

  4. luckyjc007 says:

Well, he doesn’t seem to be to concerned about it! But, after all, he is only in his 20’s! :)

  5. ivywalker says:

I gootta keep up with the reading….i cant afford to miss out on any gratuitous sex or violence

  6. I love the scene you’ve set here. Great one, Clark! I think this is my favorite this week.

  7. lrconsiderer says:

LOVE that song – one of my favourites. And BRILLIANT charactarisation. (side-note – FUCK that forced maturity of the morning light. Fuck it in the ass with a lacquered bus.)

  8. oldegg says:

I can’t believe I survived the “bullet proof twenties” but I did! Those were the days when nothing was impossible.

  9. Clark! This was awesome, and quite surprising! It certainly brought back memories of “bullet-proof 20’s” and even though there may be a few regrets, there are also more than a few sweet smiles at the memories held secret for many long years. You did wonderful job of word crafting with this one, the picture came thru vividly, I could see Stephen standing in that room!
