‘I distinctly read, ‘best of any band ‘ the Wakefield Doctrine TMT Tuesday (about that definition of the word ‘band’ lol)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts an rogers)

Twisted MixTape 23

Jen Kehl

This is Twisted MixTape Tuesday. At the invitation of Jen and Kristi… (hold that thought). This weeks ‘instructions read, (and I quote:

Here’s the fun part! The rules of Twisted MixTape are as such: Try and create a 5 song mix based on this week’s theme. This week our theme is Best of Any Band, make a 5 song playlist of your favorite songs from one band and you’re done! Easy Peasy for our Holiday Weekend!

Take it easy, make it flow, remember in your mind you are creating your mixtape for a friend.

For most of the TMT Tuesdays thus far, I’ve been comfortable writing my opinion about the music in my lists. But for the most part, I’ve been content simply putting together a ‘MixTape’ appropriate to the week’s instructions from our dual hostini.  As to actually writing a blog Post, in the conventional sense, I suspect my cleverly understated alternate history involving our hosts and an imaginary version of myself has served to meet my needs to creatively write words and such.  In the case of today’s MixTape, I will simply say, ‘I’m a fan of this music, not a student.’  In an attempt to get in the spirit of the Twisted MixTape blog, I heard, (in my mind), someone say, ‘hey!  Wakefield Doctrine dude! I’m needing some tunes, but I don’t want anything I’m tempted to sing along with, play air guitar to, but might help me get laid… watcha got like that?’ I’d be all,  ‘well… try a little of this…’

Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Comments

  1. Slu says:

Dude… I’ll say this: You never fail to crack me up. Tonight brought a smile. Loved #2!!! #3 was absolutely tight!!! And #4 brought back many memories!!! Ha…

    Loved it, Slu

  2. Dana says:

Well, at least I can now say my mix tape doesn’t have to oldest tunes of the bunch. I walked down the aisle to #2 – made me a little misty eyed!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Dana

lol… yeah it’s funny about a lot of ‘classical’ music and especially Back is that his music is heard more than it is recognized often

  3. Clark, I simply had to crack up. And my sides are splitting, because it is a clever take on the word band! Oh yes, Bach was certainly a one man band for his time!!!!!!

  4. The one thing about getting older? you get to “re-experience” such things as music (the listening and appreciation thereof).

What was the matter with the younger me that I developed such an anti-Bach attitude?! I’m going to blame it on Magda, my piano teacher. I fell for Ludvig and rather hard. So much so that I did not allow my young brain to absorb the genius of Bach.(he was too minor key for me back then lol)
Certainly a contender for master of the “mood” music. Bravo!

    Today……pretty much a #5 day….thanks for the twist.

  5. Considerer says:

Well you’ve just gone up about 16 bajillion points in my estimation.

I utterly adore Bach. Air in G is wonderful, as is Brandenberg, but my absolute favourite and the very song which I allow myself to listen to for only one month of the year (because it’s SO evocative and deeply ingrained into my psyche that it messes with my sense of seasons) is Tonet Ihr Pauken, from his Christmas music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3GrP5kDyu4

Something about his music, the layers of sound, the mathematical beauty of it…I have loved him for a very long time, and will continue to do so.

MEGA kudos on spinning your TMT this way, sir. Hats off to you.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Considerer

aint’ this virtual reality fun?? lol

(thank you … my favorite…favorites were the Inventions and Brandenburg No.3*)

*you (and probably Kristi would get this: the middle section of No.3 is the ‘link’ to the Gaga photo)

  6. Awesome list, Clark. I love Bach. I also love that my iPod will go from Bach to Metallica to Eminem – talk about the power of today’s technology. Also? I want to hear more about the imaginary version of yourself.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Kristi

thank you, I kinda thought you would, eclecticism is such a primary characteristic of the clarklike worldview.

…well, in a sense, I am…in these pages the imaginary version of myself. (I have often said to people that, should I ever get the Doctrine to the point that we have something that can be offered to the masses (think life coach, except without the limiting wardrobe… but the girls get to have whistles), then if I describe myself pre-blog there will tend to be a reaction along the lines of ‘yeah…right’. The Wakefield Doctrine has had definite modifying effect on your humble and excitable Narrator!)

  7. Linda Roy says:

I love that you chose classical and that you fit it into a definition of ‘band’. I listen to classical often and used to play
it. (I play flute and piccolo. I was first chair, thank you very much. *she said humbly*)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Linda

…well we just have to substitute Arista or Warner/Reprise with the Archduke of so-and-so and we do so have a band! lol First Chair! damn! I love the concept of the organizational relationships in orchestras and other musical groups (wow! what a shocker)…I have not ever played in such an environment looks very rogerian… in who the musicians look to for direction and advice, almost like it’s a changeable set of ruoles.

  8. Jen says:

And once again, you never cease to amaze me! As I sit here listening to the Bach channel on Pandora! I was like WHAT? Since I homeschool it’s either that or Mozart on all day. Today was a Bach day for both of us. Brilliant! And you know I love when you push the limits. I actually said Band or Artist, so… You hit it right on the head.
    Fabulouso mi amigo!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Jen

thank you! but you and Kristi totally have created the venue/the environment…the place for these kinds of things (each) week and more than simply creating it, you’ve created a place that is enduring and stable, no one week stand for audio-musico-philes lol good work yo

todo es para ti mi amor

  9. Tears to my eyes between laughter and the beautiful instrumentals. Awesome as always man. :)

  10. Kari says:

This whole thing makes me smile. :)

Ok first of all…Bach = BEYOND AMAZING. How he can go from Toccata & Fugue in D minor which is SO heavy and spooky and scarily theatrical….to Air on a G String which is so quiet, calming, sad and beautiful. He just does it all…he’s the first ever ROCK GOD if you ask me!

Also…this keeps going through my head, so I have to share:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYSG8AQO3tw

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Kari

yeah, know what you mean. (hey go watch the Brandenburg again and watch ‘the keyboard guy’ right in the beginning he gets up (supposedly to give some direction to the rest of the orchestra) but I totally thought….Jerry Lee!! lol

  11. troy P. says:

While I can say that I simply adore your list, I can equally as honestly share with you that plunking “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” down on the turntable, has never ONCE resulted in my getting laid.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      troy

lol (note to self, “there are those who read everything in a Post… check all out-going transient thoughts, impulses and clever ideas”)

Hey wait a minute! there was one wedding and I was the Best Man and and the girl I took as a date… and they played ‘Jesu…’ in stead of ‘Here Comes the Bride’.. and we were up until dawn the following day and… dude, I need to get back to you on this one! (“honey!! where did we put the box of memories from my youth?! I know it was right here…no, nothing special”)

  12. DonettaS says:

This is perfect. I love ‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring – J. S. Bach’ and ‘Air On G String – J. S. Bach’. If I ever were to march to my own funeral in disguise of a merry wedding, I would want Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring to be playing. Though, I’m not so sure you’re giving your guy friend good advice on getting laid. Now, no air guitar and bass thumping it down the boulevard, that’s right on cue. Seen comment by Troy above. This provoked a thought, has any of these songs resulted in him being laid? Maybe that’s an awkward question. However, he did bring the subject up. Dude. :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Donetta

lol… it’s not like I’m saying that the song caused… lol but you know how you people like the mood music! (though Johann ain’t no Barry White…)

“…march to my own funeral in disguise of a merry wedding” what a great line!
