I should let the music vocalize for itself.

The Godfather of Soul
meanwhile…. (those of a certain age) will remember the classic teen movie, ‘Ski Party’ (from American International Studios) James made one of the least credible walk-ons ever seen in a motion picture.

Cool beans. I’ve been liking ‘I am the Walrus’ lately :) Lucy’s good too though
@Considerer
the whole damn album… one of those rarities where every track is worth listening to… and totally sound-tracked that time in my life
Nice assemblage.
Ending on such a wonderful Jimi clip, preceded by another of my all time favs., Mr. Brown. They are indeed of my generation:)
Twist and shout thanks sir for all the links to other blogs. I’m getting to be quite the fan of these hops!
Love James Brown. He ‘da man.
Best James Brown quote ever, because I know you were just thinking “Gee – I wonder what the best James Brown quote ever is.”:
“Hair is the first thing. And teeth the second. Hair and teeth. A man got those two things he’s got it all.” – James Brown
@Tracy
lol ‘the Hardest Working Man in Show business’
Dude… I love the guitar so much & you have Jimi as well as The Clip of Mason… Very Sweet!!! I love the list, period…
Nice, Slu
@Slu
hard to pick a bad Hendrix song, I liked the acoustic Hear My Train a’Comin mostly cause of the intro part. Hendrix was a clark, as we all know…still amazing.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for this list. Your lists keep getting better and better! Thank you for Lucy, because I love that song so much…. as a kid my sister and I would belt that one out. Thank you for the glimpse into Woodstock, for Classical Gas!!!!! Thank you for James Brown, man I love him and for always bringing the Jimi. This is going to make a great addition to the YouTube mix!
@Jen
still nearly the most fun I have on a weekday* It’s fun to go looking for music that I have forgotten, lol Trying for the different stuff for Hendrix… as I noted below, the guy was a credit to his people!**
have good vacay! waiting for the ‘sandy post’ lol
*ayiiee….lol
** his people being clarks… imagine that a giant like him a clark, but tell me you don’t recognize your kind when he is talking or interviewing or anything that is not part of a role.
Got to love them all, Clark!!! With the Beatles and Jimi, we never go wrong!
@Michelle
this is a true statement
Forgot to mention that I’ve stalked your blog on Bloglovin’!
I am loving these morning posts with music…fun way to wake up and start the day! Especially enjoyed “The Who” because I’m a huge CSI fan and they sing the opening song for all 3 series: LV, NY and Miami. Fun!
@Melanie
yeah, fun way to get the day started Doctrine, tunes and some-annoyingly-persistant-insight-into-human-nature lol
Classical Gas… epic.
@Kath
the most difficult thing to convey (and what is fun about these lists) is the sense of ‘holy shit!’ when I first heard this song… or most of the others. The newness, the never-heard-anything-like-this feel. very fun
I remember Mason Williams was on The Smothers Brothers show a lot and he played it often. Still my favorite instrumental ever.
@Kath
…yeah brings it back, we all knew about classical guitar (or thought we had) but the idea of taking an instrument/style and putting it in a (slightly) different context, or whatever the proper term is… very cool.
So, of course, you would be brilliant enough to include James Brown, which shamefully slipped my selections, but Country. Joe. McDonald. If I could give you an award for that one, I totally would. Something like, “Most inventive inclusion of an anti-war song. Ever.”
It is such a joy to come and read your blog. Thank you.
@Melissa
Thank you, Melissa While there were any number of protest songs back in the day* this was the case of combined memory as Country Joe did other songs that I enjoyed but also, from the protest aspect it was so effective in combining the serious with the less than serious( a kazoo, wasn’t it?)
* My second choice (for this category) was Phil Ochs ‘Talking Vietnam Blues’
