Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
This is the Doctrine’s contribution to the Six Sentence Story bloghop.
Hosted by Denise, constrained by a sentence limit (high and low) of six, there are worse ways to spend the remaining time you have on earth.
Prompt word:
CHANNEL
I looked at my phone, slid the screen to ‘Appointments’ and, after arranging the magazines on the coffee table in the client reception area, stretched my legs out until my blue argyle socks did a slow reveal that any of Diane’s dancers would envy.
“So you want to know what makes Anya Claireaux so special? From the day I hung out my shingle as a PI I dreamed of cases that included three am clouds of cigarette smoke, frosted-glass office doors, Channel No.5 and women wearing black velvet hats with veils…”
“Hold it right there, one word about my gams, complimentary or not, I’m calling Human Resources…” Hazel laughed an octave of affectionate surprise and continued, “now get to the part about this Super Villainess person, I’m thinking she might be fun to hang out with.”
“She is simply the most… no, I won’t go with the usual…. ‘dangerous, powerful, unpredictable, too cinematic. To do her justice, I gotta get Old Testament on my presentation so stay with me here, alright?
We’re all familiar with the official story that Lucifer was cast from Heaven for the Sin of Pride, grade school Catechism. Suppose that wasn’t the reason God was so angry with the Morningstar; the story that I heard from a rabbinical grad student when I was still in grad school was Lucifer created the first Woman, a prototype, really and proceeds to trick the Almighty in to going on the first Blind Date.
Now imagine the kind of behavior and personal qualities this newest of creatures would have to have to cause the Creator of All to get so mad that He threw his favorite angel into the Pit for all eternity; for all intents and purposes, Anya Claireaux is that Woman.”

I like the thought of Lucifer creating the first woman as a prototype. That may be where Lilith comes in and Anya Claireaux is just like her. If I understand the tale of Lilith, both the Almighty and Adam had trouble with her. I can see how that would get Lucifer banished. It’s almost as bad as deceiving Eve which must have come after.
thank you for ‘getting’ my Six*
that the convoluted punchline to the question (implied) of what is Anya like is that she would totally get God aggravated on their first (and only) Blind Date! lol
*the challenge for me is to acquire the skill to be able to have my intention (of a story) be completely evident to the Reader (without, of course, interfering with their own enjoyment)
In my opinion- Lilith was the first woman- and Eve was the Temu knock-off. Stick with the original.
🤣🤣
thanks, man
ikr?
I like the idea that an interesting woman would have a cloud of cigarette smoke, a little perfume and a black velvet hat with a veil. More than classy!
noir! at it’s most archaic (Fun, at least for a little)
Lucifer seems more likeable in this story.
Thank you
Lucifer, though, is dangerous. Make no mistake about it.
this is a true statement
Somehow I think Anya would enjoy hanging out with Hazel, lol.
Fun read and always enjoyable catching another glimpse into the mind of everyone’s favorite PI.
I totally agree
An interesting theory. Why not? A Luciferous deed to ponder upon.
