Six Sentence Story -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Six Sentence Story

Strip

(For the double jeopardy, a three part answer: What is this, Who is hosting and This prompt and only six sentences total)

Strip

I came to at precisely too-early on a Monday, possibly-Tuesday, morning. Looking around the stained-curtain, bare-bulb apartment brought to mind one of those flip-pad animations that the precocious kid in sixth grade art class brought in from home.

The hangover hadn’t arrived yet. I was still in the after-unconsciousness-but-before-sufficient-perspective-for-regret, stage.

By some scar-tissue miracle, I remembered that the Bottom of the Sea Lounge and Strip Club still had their Goddamn Sunrise Special: $3.00 a shot with a complimentary hand-towel for rum-palsied patrons to drape around their necks.

I looked over at the blanket ridge on the girl-side of the bed and decided I wasn’t feeling that lucky, so I got up and hit the street.

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

  1. Somehow i would think taking advantage of the special would just make things worse, but he may be wondering how it could get any worse at this point.

  2. Entire package, including soundtrack, very nicely done :)
    “scar-tissue miracle” – most excellent.
And had to laugh at “girl-side of the bed”, because… there are the sides lol

Perfect SSS for this cue, but when will he ever learn!

Denise’s comment is right on pertaining to the “girl-side of the bed.” What is hilarious is how I was just thinking last night about all the places we have lived and how “that side” wasn’t always the same, although it stayed the same the whole time we were living in a particular home. So funny.

Now you have me thinking about relative sides of the bed (in both uses of the word)… Looking back, through three changes of homes, we’ve maintained the same right/left arrangement.

Lots of layers going on here. Love bogie, I’m a classic movie freak, You can’t go wrong with zeppelin and anything with strip clubs and hangovers sounds like an excellent time to me.. Great write!!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      thanks V.
I’ve taken to using a Bogie photo whenever I’m writing a Six Sentence Story from the context of my on-going WIP/practice stories, ‘the Case of the Missing Starr’ (a pulp kind of story).

      • Violet Lentz says:

Ok. So I looked around and can’t find WIP/practice stories anywhere,, What are they nd where do I find them?

        • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

I dug through my blogs (I find writing in a blog much easier than Word, or, god forbid, Scrivener*)

I discovered I only published the first chapter of ‘the Case of the Missing Starr**’ but, since that time I’ve continued to chapter 12 or so***

In any event, Chapter 1 of ‘The Case of the Missing Starr’:

*Scrivener motto: ‘Tormenting and frustrating clarks for nearly a generation…
**which got it’s start as a Six Sentence story
*** somewhere among the Six Sentence Story(s) is at least a couple of ‘duets’1 with others
          1) I would write a setup Six and send to the other writer who would riff off of the scene… fun

  5. UP says:

Oh dear! At least he knows the day can get better! Good six.
