Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
This week: simplicity.
- Thanks, Josie Two Shoes. The place is open on Sunday for my participation* as it has been formal these weeks.
- Una I enjoy preparing her breakfast. She waits without impatience and wags her tail as she eats.
- Phyllis
- The Wakefield Doctrine for providing me with not only (an) additional perspective on the world and the people in it, but it helps me recognize the best place to stand.
- The bloghops that I participate in: FTSF, Six Sentence Story, TToT and the Gravity Challenge; they make the difference between reading alone in my room and standing in a crowded bookstore** and reading.
- The work I do. It is custom-made for me.***
- The technology of the times, they remind me how fortunate I am to be living in these times and they provide me with a daily reminder not to sleep through it.
- The Book of Secret Rules (aka the Secret Book of Rules) an artifact of this bloghop (and only this ‘hop, to the best of my knowledge). It is the best of all Rules (Secret and otherwise)
- THIS SPACE AVAILABLE (For anyone really wanting to participate, especially those who have not yet worked up the nerve (lest we forget, the first time for most things carries a certain anti-momentum that doesn’t simply block our efforts, it enervates our will.) Type it into a Comment and I will post it here.
- Secret Rule 1.3 (which states, in part: “…[t]he completion (incipient and replete) of a list constitutes a legitimate Item for (said) List and may, provided there remain, at minimum one item less the recommended Ten Things, be placed in the Tenth (10th) position and, by it’s completing the list, be something to be Thankful for; [Sec.45 (i) subchapter 8 of the Book of Secret Rules, Secret Book of Rules [all rights imagined] 2009- 2018
* actually, the doors remain open, like, unlike maybe Monday? Tuesday? (better ask J)
** for the age-challenged, those are places, there out there, in the world, (somewhere like school and the doctors but not actually in your neighborhood) that are full of hardcopy books and things
*** for Kristi and Pat and Josie and Mimi (and those so inclined)
It is a very cool thing to look at a reflection in a pond. What is mirrored is not always what is seen. Or is that the other way around? :D
I think you achieved your theme today. Nice listing.
I too am grateful for Josie keeping the link open.
thank you
I’ve been late linking up before–I’m pretty sure the link is open until late Tuesday night.
Is that Phyllis’ tree house in the background of the pond photo? How cool!
yes, that light brownish structure to the left… the semi-pumpkin shade of brown to the right is the house
Oh, how funny–I didn’t even notice the main house until you pointed it out!
yep, up in the back there (relative to the pond, of course
I love that Una and Phyllis always make your list :) Have a great week!
you have the same!
That pond is fantastic! A smaller version of Walden’s. There is something so peaceful about being by a pond and watching and listening to all the activity in and around it.
I chuckled at your “age challenged” remark. I love going into bookstores, especially ones that sell used books (with early copyright dates) about the history of different areas and the people who lived there. However with the accessibility of a lot of these books being online now, it is easier to find the information one is seeking. You just can’t smell that smell that is prevalent as one turns the pages of a very old, musty book.
that smell is the key… like coffee and bacon, some smells are more powerful than others.
I enjoy pre-summer for only one reason – no mosquitoes. *, **, and ***
The first thing I looked for in the photo was your little Footbridge and there it was! I love that you still use the BOSR/ SBOR…. it goes without saying though that I do miss the dance that was required to use it at one time.
I totally loves the Book of Secret Rules (aka the Secret Book of Rules)… I miss the Seven Virgins though, (I’d say something about bringing them out of retirement however I accept the fact that I have been fully-indoctrinated into the culture of youth…that being said, I almost did find a vid clip that I thought appropriate (lol)… from the old Saturday Night Live show in the Eddie Murphy years, a bit he used to do about Gumby (“I am Gumby, damnit!”)
I suppose there’s a connection somewhere there.)
‘A Pond before Spring’ (Landscape Orientation) Like a mirror on a bureau in the basement (or attic) the pond that takes up the lower half of the photo reflects only what its current orientation allows. A limitation to mirrors that deprives all but the most imaginative of the inherent power of (a mirror). em? We see (below) what is above (in the top half of the photo)…mostly. But all mirrors are simply the flat picture of something that exists in four dimensions. It is the fourth (dimension) that one should never forget.
I love all this. Mirrors and ponds. I will try not to forget.
yeah, the pond is funny…being small enough that it doesn’t have a separate horizon (big enough for the other shore to disappear) and therefore serves to reflect only the very close things which is the woods surrounding it and the bridge and the treehouse and the regular house.
