Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
Photos and videos,
The Summer is over.
Feet and hands cold and distant,
The world pulls downwards.
invisible lands invite.
L Lewis has authorized me (and the co-hostinae) to invite you to participate in her bloghop, ‘the Ten Things of Thankful’. You might want to give this offer some serious consideration. The path of the remainder of your life will be altered. Rather, we should say, the path of the remainder of your life will be different, if you do choose to join us this weekend. But that is a decision only you can make. We are here simply as one (the nearly innumerable) choices that you have today.
1) a surprise gift from an internet friend, Friend of the Doctrine and Graviteer…. valerie
2) a video of a walk with Una
3) speaking of spontaneous gifts, for Phyllis just in time for Thanksgiving:
the photo makes it kind of hard to see the axe and rather than anyone thinking that I enjoy giving flyswatters as gift (lol…. kristi did spot the axe in the 2nd photo)
4) computers and the internet, jeez talk about your ‘cottage built of bread and cakes, with windowpanes of sugar’ this internet surely is the milk-and-bread ordinary magic lamp
5) I will include a otohp from work this week. Not because it’s representative of anything exception about the workweek….
6) speaking of work! ‘Almira’ (I am learning the world of writing and books, tales and such) but man alive! this week’s chapter (Chapter 35) took more than I’ve been accustomed to bring to press. But! there should be a Chapter 35 ready, maybe even Sunday evening. We’re approaching a key point in the story and one of the challenges to writing Almira is the fact that we have semi-paralell story lines. We started (or tale) with Dorothy Gale returned to Circe from her first year in college (Sarah Lawrence) and almost immediately travelled back to 1912 to meet Almira Ristani. We have been following Almira through her life as it lengthens to intersect with our starting point, Circe Kansas 1939.
7) the Graviteers totally deserve a shoutout. We battled our way through that most dangerous (foodisticallly-speaking) of the Big Three holidays, Thanksgiving! We totally walked out the other side of the-Thursday-that-would-not-end like well… like these two: (violent content follows)
8) I actually have more time than usual today. Normally a full-on work day, there is some latitude in my schedule that I will totally take advantage of, so I’ll leave item #9 free for now.
9) (Just in case: I am totally grateful for the Book of Secret Rules (aka the Secret Book of Rules) for making this (temporary) exception (and seeming non-compliance) for the balance of the afternoon. But there will be something new here by EOD.
10) SR 1.3
Glad you put that photo of the axe there. I wasn’t paying attention to scale and the first thing I thought was, “Phyllis got a fly swatter?” :-)
I definitely thought fly swatter. :D
lol
Altered. Yes. I can attest to that.
:-)
as clarks this (capacity) is a gift and a curse, no?
That is one impressive axe!
Who doesn’t love getting surprise gifts :)
Always enjoy the dog walk vids lol
#7 Excellent clip to make your point lol
What a guy. A shiny lovely ax as a gift for the woman in your life. Should my hub even consider giving me an ax, I would, then have to give him the ax. I can see why Phyllis is a star. Anxiously awaiting, Chapter 35.
Chapter 35 should be on the stands within the hour (final edit in progress)
I’ll defer the matter of the axe to Phyllis… lol
Everyone who knows me knows that there is no greater symbol of Clark’s love and devotion than a three pound Michigan steel axe with a wooden handle – doesn’t get better than this :).
Phyllis, I think you and I would get along just fine. I’ve never wanted an axe, but John has given me compost for Mother’s Day, when I was getting a raised bed garden going. I felt kind of sorry for him, because people might have assumed he gave a terrible gift, but I was thrilled with his present!
Phyllis got an axe!? LOL.
I AM digging that wood stove, though. There’s no more comforting heat than sitting next to a wood stove in the cold of winter. We had one in our last house. Now, our new house is all rock and tight as a small shirt over someone’s beer belly, but, ironically, I’m not as cold. So…go figure. Haha.
Enjoyed the post and hope you’ve had a good weekend!
she totally enjoys the out door, wood shopping thing, (she is a roger, after all)
the stove does have a certain charm for warmth (which is the thing that I totally need between now and next June)
I am so jealous of your wood burning stove. A crack in the chimney led to a conversion of both of our fireplaces to gas. Nice. Yes. Easy. Yes. But not the same.
I fully intend to fight gravity by your virtual side ASAP. Schedule has not allowed time to sit down and find out what I need to do to join you all. Been trying the food and movement stuff already, but need the companionship so desperately.
We’re totally looking forward to your joining us on in the Gravity Challenge.
The simplest of things: every morning (except Sunday) as soon as you can, take a photo of the readout of your scale and send it to me (either on ‘the Facebook’ as an IM or to my email: fclarkfarley@gmail.com ) Pretty simple, isn’t it? I gather the photos and post them to 2milerun.wordpress.com (and they end up on the Facebook etc)
oh yeah, there’s also ‘Kristi’s Rule‘ which, imo, makes the Gravity challenge work… the Rule is: your photo need include only as much of ‘the number’ as you prefer. Here’s a link to last Fridays post. Kristi’s Rule focuses on the fact that this is about ‘the fact of change’ not any particular relative measure (of desired change)… we see each other’s progress (and set backs) and draw strength to send in the next days’ photo. And, of course, central to the Gravity Challenge is the notion of ‘Stable Weight’ which makes all the difference in the world.
Can’t wait for you to join us, May!!! If you need any info, just message or email me.
I think all my thoughts have been covered in others’ comments already. I can understand the greatness of Phyllis’ ax. If Hub bestows a gift upon me that is something I’ve needed that is useful, it makes me happy. He’s smart like that.
yeah, ’cause bottom line is the enjoyment of the gift both giver and givee
