Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Twisted MixTape 19

Jen Kehl

Back to the Present!! damn!  For the last, what …6 or 9 weeks, we’ve all been wandering through time, sort of a combination musico-archeological expedition/pub-crawl/Thursday night in the dormitory (after exams!)/blind-first-date/meeting friends for breakfast… event.

“… oh! hi, good morning. er…the bathroom is over there, I think. yeah, was fun. no, I had a great time! not certain, I thought I saw her go off with them after the second break, no I don’t mind… try the nightstand I think I saw a pack in there. lol really I was amazed at her too…no she warned us about the late 80s… Jen? yeah totally owned the 90s… huh? yeah thanks, should have seen me then  …the 60s were amazing even in retrospect… I don’t know, just started looking for my shirt…try over by the balcony… no, doesn’t seem like 5 decades!  yeah those kids made it look easy, I don’t really know…probably still out there… yeah, I’ll split a cab.   …I agree, what happens on a TMT really would be best remembered strictly between the ‘participants’   yeah…it’s a personality type blog don’t worry no one is gonna see it lol”

I would like to thank Jen (and Kristi) for creating this…this opportunity to re-experience the music over that years, that while always a major part of my life, has been stuffed away in some metaphorical attic..

I will say, however, that I really like the present music ‘Decade’ (->2013). While I don’t have the depth of involvement (in the music scene) that I had during previous Decades, what I do have is much better (as the ‘not young’ everywhere must always say lol) I have the luxury of being in a position to enjoy a wider range of music/musical styles than ever before. My selections today, while not totally definitive, reflect that: (from) The All American Rejects to Avenged Sevenfold to Fred Hammond,  each is guaranteed to: bring a smile to my face/a tap to my foot/an increase in speed in my car.

Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Comments

  1. Clark, nah, some music if the present’s pretty cool! These are quite alright.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Michelle

      thank you! (I really liked the Fred Hammond and the Halestorm)

      hey if you have any thoughts on the ‘List experiment’ from yesterday…I am going to revisit the topic tomorrow. Lizzi has some insights and impressions from the clarklike perspective

  2. Kerri says:

    Kind of scary how you kind of went all dark and then added Rascal Flatts :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Kerri

      thank you! I get that a lot, it is not so much a deliberate attempt, but with only 5 slots (6 in this case) and trying to select what I feel is the best of a time frame, it gets a little….jarring at times (a little??! lol)

      I really had a problem when I knew that I wanted to include Fred in the mix… talk about something-dissonance! but some very good music (imo)… especially the Rascal Flatts

  3. Considerer says:

    Okay, my first ever Rascal Flatts and I’m TOTALLY HOOKED! Thank you for this :D

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      yeah… I really like them, but there is something to the evolution/development to the whole country music genre that makes a lot of music really more accessible (some of the nest ‘near-rock’ music is getting played on the country music radio stations)

  4. Cyndi says:

    OMG I am addicted to Rascal Flats. They play them a lot on our NPR station here. lol
    have a great Tuesday!

  5. Ok what’s wrong with me that I’ve never heard most of these? I think the only two that I can say for sure that I know are Gives You Hell and Tonight. I can’t decide whether I like “that bitch can eat her heart out” song (Love Bites) or not. I like the beat but it’s not my favorite – not sure why. Perhaps I need to listen again. I’m kindof digging the Rascal Flatts song although I don’t usually go for the more country-sounding music (although, this decade is one in which I’ve definitely been more open to it than in years past). Awesome list, dude. Ok so I have to ask. Sounds like you and Jen may have gotten drunk in one of the past decades, listening to music together and then you needed whatever was in the nightstand? My oh my. It’s steamy over here!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Kristi

      …this is the magic of fiction, non? far be it from me to spoil the ‘scene’ but you might want to give it another reading…. lol think about who is being referred to and who is not… that’s all I’m gonna say. (damn! when the hell does that deVries “Learn to Write Good” home-course gonna show up?)

  6. Amy says:

    Wow I guess I’m really out of touch (or stuck watching disney pop with the kids). I really enjoyed these, especially the first one.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Amy

      it’s been such an interesting series of ‘hops… I think the focus that Jen and Kristi put on this (by the decade) did something very interesting, not only did it let me focus on a time in my life, there has been a curious …I don’t enhancement, focus or something among the participants really kind of cool (I probably am the only one feeling that, cool nonetheless, ya know?)

      If I had favorites (in this list) it would be Halestorm and Fred Hammond (have seen on but not the other live)

  7. JenKehl says:

    OK Tonight Tonight is going to be in my head forever! I love how versatile this post is! I did not expect it AT ALL. Especially because you put that DAMN SONG Nightmare on there again! I had to add it to the playlist super fast so I wouldn’t have to watch it again! Other than that. Perfection, a great mix of all genres, it would have made the perfect mixtape in real life.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Jen

      thank you… this was a challenging one ( I mean Nightmare and ‘That ain’t nothin’ in the same list… I am surely going to burn in hell for that little juxtaposition…lol)

      Hey, I said it somewhere already, but you have done an amazing thing with this here bloghop here…and I know I will keep participating, but the decade thing v cool

  8. Dream says:

    I was just listening to that Halestorm album on the drive home today and that’s my favorite song off of it. Fantastic choices this week!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Dream

      I get a kick out of watching the drummer channel Keith Moon, especially in this video… I don’t think I have seen any songs that I haven’t liked from Lzzy and Friends

      (holy smokes! I had no idea that they were brother and sister… white stripes in reverse! I went to wikipedia to check on the spelling and there it was, huh learn something new everyday)

  9. Slu says:

    Dude… Absolute Variety on this List. I got a kick out of it and can I get an Amen??? Ha…

    Nice, Slu

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Slu

      agree… that Fred, amazing (loved the horn section for that concert, the old r&b moves a lot of fun).

  10. troy P. says:

    Eclectic, electric! Nice bag o’ music you have here Clark – mind if I dip in for seconds?

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Troy

      dude! given the depth of your knowledge/appreciation of genres, sub-genres and genre-ettes of music, total compliment.

  11. Awesome list. Except for I would be lying if I said I listened to the Rascal Flats tune. Because I didn’t. So I don’t know if that one is awesome or not. But I’m not clicking on it and you can’t make me. ;)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Tracy

      but…but you have to!!

      (the secret, but hot banjo player is someone semi-famous and really nice person-ette…)

  12. Jak says:

    Not too bad of a line up, definitely a spread. I still think I can do without Rascal Flatts :-)

    Sounds like the trek through generations was a blast! What happens now that you are back in the present exactly?

    Jak at The Cryton Chronicles & Dreams in the Shade of Ink

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Jak

      thats up to Jen and Kristi…everyone enjoyed the process (I believe) I surely did

      I love the Rascal Flatts ’cause it (this song) is so much the mutation of country into semi-rock (listen to the guitar!) fun stuff/
