Six Sentence Story -the Wakefield Doctrine- [an Ian Devereaux Six]

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

This is the Doctrine’s contribution to the Six Sentence Story bloghop.

Hosted by Denise, constrained by a sentence limit (high and low) of six, there are worse ways to spend the remaining time you have on earth.

Prompt word:

PEN

“Guess who?”

You know how sometimes you get an idea in your head and its inappropriateness becomes part of the allure? Worse yet, the temptation grows the more you appreciate how bad it can go; not to give the Bible un-earned validation, but there is a place in my head where I totally get why Eve did it.

I had cover for my approach: from my left the music from the strip club made it over and through the liquor bottles on the shelves that divided it from the Lounge side, to my right, the city sidewalk visible through the row of windows provided random car and bus fighting noises; needless to say, I was proud, (and now totally committed), of getting close enough behind her to put both hands over Diane Tierney’s eyes as she spoke to Lou.

That said, I did detect a subtle tensing of the muscles in her right arm and, glancing down, saw the gold Cross pen in her hand in a grip that, courtesy of the History Channel, I recognized as a coup de poignard, which is, of course, French for ‘back the fuck off or I stick you with this dagger’.

Without turning, Diane smiled at Lou, “Ian, Ian, Ian, how is it you’re still alive, much less un-crippled?”

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

  1. Frank Hubeny says:

I can see how putting one’s hands over Diane Tierney’s eyes would be like Eve touching the forbidden fruit. Either would lead to disasters.

  2. Misky says:

I love every single line of these Six. Nicely done.

  3. Violet Lentz says:

Ah, the many uses of a fine gold Cross pen….

  4. Chris Hall says:

I’d love to have a pen like that! But no, not for me, sadly. Although I would probably lose it. I just have many common bics / biros… black ones are preferred.

I believe got a set (pen and mechanical pencil) for some graduation or some such… prefer Uniball (blue, fine pt) these days

  5. Reena Saxena says:

The last line leaves the reader wanting more … a closure.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

the question (for me) is who leaves the encounter with more questions, Diane or Ian? (Bonus question: and it is a positive or negative?)

  6. How? Well, maybe he’s cute. Or amusing. Or both.

  7. Not that we haven’t had hints along the way, but for sure, Diane can take care of herself… even it if is with a gold Cross pen!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

We tend to only see her in the context of when Lou is there, which is almost always or Ian… but she has instincts and a strength of Will to avoid trouble in the meantime
