A word-count constrained imagination contest hosted by jenne and ceayr, the prompt is an image and the only limit is ‘tell your story in under 250 words’
“Freeze!”
Hours of practice paid off as the small group of young people found monochromatic cover in the alley.
The colorful buses, originally simple bait-and-trap vehicles, adapted as their prey evolved. Generation Alpha’s cultural profile manifested a very real threat to the government’s effort to consolidate culture.
The old network of cctv, evolved beyond the stationary lamppost camera, now lurked in every corner of the social media ecosystem. To aid in the eradication of the threat, the Ministry of ReEducation adapted a 20th C pest control strategy, the Sterile Insect Technique. Free apps such as Instagram and Temu proliferated, decorative candy trim on the new millennium’s iteration of a certain fairytale gingerbread house.
Despite efforts to outlaw subversive humor, some adults risked, in the illusion of the privacy of their homes, observing that it was the height of irony that the State’s nemesis in its War on Disorder was Imagination and it’s quisling step-sibling, Creativity.
Of course, no ideology can cure the young of the chaotic imagination of childhood.
So, the buses drove the streets and the young practiced their creativity in avoiding extinction.
Quite enjoyable 250 word count story, Clark.

Brilliant allegory. Big Brother does not need to pay when the hype of social media sharing does the work for free.
Dystopian was the first word that came to mind as I read this, but a certain gentleman beat me to it. I like where the bendy bus took your fertile imagination.
