Toosday -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Let’s start with an overview of current bloghops we participate in…*

Wait just a minute.

We interrupt the casual tone of one starting the day with zero pressure, negative stress. Like the theme to ‘Leave it to Beaver’ (of song by the Platters), soft, melodious and resonating with the message, ‘Don’t worry, Everything is as it should be’.

nuh uh

This is the Wakefield Doctrine. A perspective on the world around, (all of), us and the people who make it up. The Wakefield Doctrine offers that, given a certain degree of flexible intelligence and confident curiosity we can, (all of us), see the world as the other person is experiencing it. By allowing ourselfs the additional perspective of the three personality types (aka predominant worldviews), we can know more about the other person than they know about themselves.

These three predominant worldviews are:

  1. clarks (Outsiders)
  2. scotts (Predators)
  3. rogers (Herd Members)

And while each are quite distinct and distinguishable in terms of characteristic responses to everyday situations, they are all grounded in the notion that our relationship with the world, (established at a very early age), is the basis for our personality types. To put that more simply: We are, all of us, born with the potential to see the world as: Outsiders, Predators or Herd Members. It is this initial choice that informs our development of personality, the style of our social strategies and such.

Imagine waking up as a two or three year old in one of theses three realities. You don’t know that it is one of three ways the world can appear. It’s simply the reality. (After all, you are kinda young in our scenario, probably lacking in a lot of language skills. Ya know?) But the fact is:

  1. everyone one else appear to know something about each other (and the world) that you cannot for the life of you see or understand. you know that you are a part of the others, the family, whatever group forms your immediate environment, but you don’t have the assuredness of the others in your family. you suspect you’re not really completely like them and rather than ask why that might be, you keep it to yourself. since you don’t remember missing whatever lesson of life the others evidence, a part of you urges caution. maybe there’s a reason you’re different. a not-good reason. you practice the strategies of appearing to be a part of, while constantly exploring the world (pretty much in your mind, via your imagination) in the hope of finding out why you’re the Outsider
  2. man! the world is an exciting place. you know you’re a part of the group around you, the family, but there’s so much to do and so little time to do it. you get comfortable with your social environment but, inside, every waking moment, there’s an urgency to move, to do, to chase. some who you meet, you recognize and immediately establish a relative standing… a ranking. others? they seem to want to be chased, pursued and dominated. everyday something new, something to chase. fun isn’t quite the word, but when someone does something near you, more often than not you’re off and running. Predators do not live by waiting for the world to come to them.
  3. huh. the people around you are …fine. they know you and you know them. everything is perfect. except when it is not. then you must earn your place in the group. without doubt there are ways to do things. live, interact with others that are…. well, basically, perfect. if you’re a part of a group, and you know this without knowing why or how you should, then clearly your responsibility to the others is to develop and practice this ‘better way’ and then, by demonstrating it to others, you will be valued. except for those who are different, those not a Herd Member.

* referring, of course, to Denise’s Six Sentence Story; jenne and ceayr’s Unicorn Challenge and the TToT. you should stop in at one (or all of ’em) Tell whoever asks that the Doctrine sent ya

Monday-RePrint -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

In keeping with recent conversations focused on the possibility that we have not been ‘keeping up’ with the changing demographics of Readers here, lets look for a really old post. Having written it, (we wrote all but a few guest posts), we’ll post it with notes on meaning. Then, we’ll wait for Readers to Comment, ‘Dude, we knew that!’ or ‘What the heck, you never told us that!’

…sorry, this is not such the basic, very early ‘this is the Wakefield Doctrine post’ but, everyone these days be sayin’ ‘video! only medium for the message, no matter what that message might be!’

From one of my roadtrips. (Rule of Roadtrips: when returning from a business trip, find someplace cool that, with judicious travel planning, can be visited while still getting home on the same day as a direct return.)

self-development, 3 personality types and the Wakefield Doctrine (oh yeah, damn almost forgot! Video Friiidaay!!!)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

There will come a time, in the not too distant future, when people you know, will come up and say, “hey! I just heard about this Doctrine thing, and it’s supposed to be about personality types, but they have these hats and this guy travels around the world and takes these really strange videos and talks about rogers and clarks and scotts! Those are the names they have for 3 personality types…yeah…I know….but it’s true! they have pictures and charts and stuff and when I looked around at people here at school or at my job, there they were!  Anyway, they said this Doctrine will help me change anything about myself that I want…and it’s true….”

…and that will be very cool, but you are here now and you are watching this thing of ours, and  I am including you in the use of the word ‘ours’. With a Wakefield Doctrine hat (on your damn head) and a little patience you will be a part of the growth of the Doctrine. Of course, writing a Comment wouldn’t hurt either!
As we all know, to be a ‘personality theory/self-improvement tool’ ya gotta provide proof that it works!    Alright, then take a look at these here videos here:*

Then on to the other Crossroads:**

…Tell me quick where I can get rid of these things!***

* look at the geocoding of the location…damn Highway 61
** look up the legend of Robert Johnson and the Crossroads
***  ten bonus points on any future exam for knowing the name of the song these words are from without google

Monday -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

all right, enough with the fiction and the story-telling

… ok, enough with the fiction.

The Wakefield Doctrine is a perspective on the world around us and the people who make it up. As a perspective (note: an additional perspective) it affords one of the opportunity to appreciate reality in a slightly different way. And, with the proper intent, this means we can be better at whatever it is that we would be better at, in life.

We are, all of us, born with the potential to experience the world from one of three relationships. These three relationships are, what in less fun and useful personality schema, would be referred to as the three personality types of the Wakefield Doctrine:

  1. the Outsider (clarks)
  2. the Predator (scotts)
  3. the Herd Member (rogers)

While essential to the understanding and use of the Wakefield Doctrine, we’ll return to the characteristics of the three later. (That said, most Readers who return to this site more than twice* upon understanding the nature of the what we refer to as (the three) predominant worldviews), extrapolate most of the qualities, characteristics, quirks and peccadilloes** of this thing of ours.

At a very early age, one of these three ‘realities’ becomes enduring. It is the world the child experiences. It is in context and (in) relationship to this world the individual develops the social strategies and styles of interacting with the world around them and the people who make it up. aka their personality.

(Note: we have but one predominant worldview. We retain the potential to experience the world as do ‘the other two’, these are referred to as secondary and tertiary aspects. For some these can be significant and therefore an element in their behavior, for others, barely there, no influence.)

The difference between this and other systems of understanding: we have the perfect personality type for the reality we experience, for the world in which we are living.

Before we leave for the day:

the ‘goal’ of the Wakefield Doctrine is to allow us to better appreciate how we relate ourselfs to the world around us and the people who make it up.

So today: read up (among these posts) the descriptions and characteristics of the behavior and interpretation of everyday life from the perspective of: the Outsider (’cause neither of the other two wake up in the morning and try to figure what they’ll do in the world that waits them, ‘Out there’); and the Predator (hey, did you really think they’re completely asleep and that was why they’re staring at you like that, as you insist they will benefit greatly by waiting and reflecting finding inner serenity); and the Herd Member (sorry, as friendly and organized and remarkably social, you’re the one at risk, not them, they know and will be happy, no, they will be grateful for the opportunity to show you the Right Way).

Come, on! It’s more fun than you think. Wait, given the demographic of the four-time Reader, you already know that.

Warning! If you persist in learning the realities reflected the three relationships of the Doctrine, you will begin to see the clarks, scotts and rogers in your everyday world. The thing of it is, there’s a real good chance that you won’t be able to not see the clarks, scotts and rogers in your world.

Tomorrow: ‘the Everything Rule’

* the first is chance, a good friend’s recommendation and/or  boredom; the second is confirmation to settle the ‘no, fricken way!’ and the last: ‘huh, this person reminds me of something on that site…’

** not that the Wakefield Doctrine cares about self-reported characteristics…way unnecessary

TToT -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

This is the Wakefield Doctrine’s weakly contribution to the Ten Things of Thankful (TToT) bloghop. Created by Lizzi R. one breezy April day in a thatched-roof cottage in the village of Parsley-and-Sage; in the county of Cottage-Cheese, UK, few were surprised at how quickly it grew.

Following is the Doctrine’s Grat List:

1) Una

2) Phyllis

3) the Wakefield Doctrine

4) the Zombie Christmas Project: Chapter Sith (things are not looking well for our sacrificial fir).

5) the Six Sentence Story bloghop

6) agent rejection letter that was awfully well-written. on a whim, I sent a query letter for ‘Almira’ to an agent. (In part because his name was Farley. lol)

Dear Clark –

Many thanks for writing. You have an interesting story to tell and there’s a lot to like about your approach. But in the end I’m afraid I didn’t come away quite fully convinced this was something I think I’d be able to represent successfully. I’m sorry not to be more enthusiastic but thanks nonetheless for giving me a chance to review it and best of luck in finding it the right home.

Best,
Farley

Chase Literary Agency

7) Hypograt: Don’t get us wrong! The above is not anywhere near as fun to have read as: ‘Send full manuscript’. That being said, gratistically-speaking it does remind us of that famous story of the explorers and the tribe.

8) something, something

9) Una’s garden:

10) Secret Rule 1.3 …from the Book of Secret Rules (aka the Secret Book of Rules).

Monday~ the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

If you are of a certain age, you will recognize this person… a high jumper named Dick Fosbury who changed his sport in as fundamental a manner as possible. (Look him up) RIP 2023 (yeah, so a clark)

(Thought I already had a Reprint post, the original intro-section, but discovered it’d already had a music vid attached. But, it, (the vid, not the words), just didn’t connect to anything in the world, this morning‘s world, at any rate.)

Hey! There’s a possibility!

And… and! it ties in (sorta) to a comment Nick made, the end of last week, about how the concept of ‘expectations’ might be an interesting Doctrine post.

Speaking of connecting to the world, we trust everyone reading knows that Wakefield Doctrine is about nothing if it’s not about the relationship one has with the world around (them) and the people who make it up. Correct?

(clarks: yeah, of course; scotts: we got ya; rogers: well, maybe you should go ahead and tell us)

We would say that the parenthetical above has everything a person would need to re-create the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers, but that would not be true.

The thing of it is, the Doctrine? All these words and posts, music vids and bullet lists, the three personality types and descriptions?

They’re for clarks and scotts (with a significant secondary clarklike aspect and rogers with a significant secondary clarklike aspect) only.

hey! wait. Today’s post photo has totally derailed the direction of this train (lol… not quite a rogerian expression but still fun)

With the Everything Rule* in mind (hell, lets put it on a banner along the top of the blackboard) consider:

Creativity:

    • clarks: genuine creativity and therefore rarely a direct benefit, i.e. a place in the first generation history books; clarks being the Outsider are in a position to take from nothing and bring back (or leave on a scott or roger‘s doorstep) expressions or things, songs or viewpoints that are not nor ever have been of the world.
    • scotts: with endless energy one might think the world would not be able to keep up and a path out of the known world would be available (to gather something new and novel) but no, a scott will use their energy, (and, therefore, power), to take pretty much anything and, (with as many exclamation marks as necessary), raise an old, sweat-stained-liner, slight tear in the crown, fedora and say ‘Hey! I have a new hat. Aint that cool/funny/amazing?’
    • rogers: being of the Herd, they are natural eingineers/accountants/law makers. the creativity of a roger is found in their talent in combining the parts, (already in existence), in a novel fashion.

Out(ish) of time.

Expectations: a very provocative iquiry, fer sure. Afterall, this thing of ours is about relationships. And can there be a more intimate relationship than that between ourselfs in the present and ourselves in the future?

Get everyone you know to write a comment to the effect: ‘Hey! We want to read a post on expectations! Nick’s idea/topic is what you should write about next. Come on! We promise to come back.’

* everyone does everything at one time or another
