three ways to have a better week, this week

Welcome! It is ‘comic sans’ day again, here at the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers ) and we all know what that means!

That is Correct! It means that today, with this here Post here we will be all about providing useful, low-stress, high-value Advice, intriguing photos and a music video or two. So read along and see if you don’t feel better today for reading about clarks, scotts and rogers. (Hey, is it just me or has the world gotten a little extra annoying in the last three days or so? Nothing too obvious, just a few more people driving 60 mph in the high-speed lane, maybe a Customer Service Person having a bit more attitude than usual, even your computer/smartphone or what have you acting up. Just recently. Let us know if you are experiencing the same increase in aggravation this week.)

But now on to our relaxing, comic sans-enhanced Post.  (btw: this is being done ‘on the fly’ so anyone want to add to the Content, let us know and we will re-write this Post to incorporate your thoughts, reflections and whatnot). Think about it! An easy way to see your thoughts ‘in print’ so effortless even DownSpring glenn could do it!

As promised, the Three Ways to have a Better Week:

One.  Stop reading or watching the News and the Weather (it’s alright to watch the Sports ‘News’ as long as it is not a story about a delay of game due to natural disaster).

Two. Watch the following film clip.

Three. What? hey, lighten-up, yo

Historical Note for the second video here, the one by Deep Purple: You know that great movie, “This is Spinal Tap’? it was  a documentary.  In the ‘Lazy’ video, watch for the band members wandering around the stage, drinking beer and seemingly just setting up their equipment on the stage that appears to be in a hockey rink…

First some musci we have used before:

(“a piece of the action…”)

Lady Downspring here.  I’ve decided to suit up again.  I quite enjoy it on occasion but I digress.  My first and last Post for this blog was about a year ago.  “What is wrong with that?” you may ask.  Everything and nothing at all.  I am, after all, a clark.  It is within my purview to procrastinate, take for granted, lose urgency/energy, be fearful, wonder that there is anything pertinent I can contribute, castigate myself – wait, that’s reserved for my “other” friends…..  to the conversation that is the Wakefield Doctrine, the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers.  So why would I think I have nothing pertinent, nothing of value to say? What is it that keeps me reading but not writing? Could it be connected to how I view the world? (with fear CY – with fear.  the clue to your clarklike nature lies within the domain of fear.)

The question and subsequent question of the day for the veteran “25” and new readers alike?  “How does one learn to view the world differently?”,  “Can I view the world differently?”  This presupposes the desire (“shh… no, not now…”) to change how one views the world.  First, let us assume the position (no glenn. get up!) that one has identified oneself as predominantly a clark, scott or roger. What would be next?  If you identified yourself as having clarklike “symptoms” not to worry too much (yet). You will continue to read the Wakefield Doctrine as long as it amuses and challenges you, you can learn from it; you do not find yourself distracted by something else.  If on the other hand you recognize your primary status as that of a scott, (no!. all egos must, I repeat must….….. check at the door) then it depends on how hungry you are and whether there is enough to satisfy you.  Thirdly, if you lay claim to being of rogerian descent then it becomes a little more complex.  Assumptions have been made.  If the conversation that is the Wakefield Doctrine aligns with your interpretation, with your world view at the moment, Godspeed.

clarks! This session you may sit.  I will speak of our little scottian friends.  “You!  In the seat by the door!  Go get that roger and drag him back here! ” rogers do not like to be told what to do (unless it is by a scottian female – a male roger will always defer to the scottian female.) For more on how the Wakefield Doctrine can be applied to relationships I will refer you to our very own Ms. AKH.)

To be scottian is to be dominant or submissive (to another scott only).  One or the other.  There are dominant scotts and lesser scotts. (not in a diminutive way)  Keep in mind: clarks think, scotts act and rogers feel, you will no doubt catch on quickly to the nuances of the many ways a clark views the world, how a scott views the immediate landscape, and how a roger views the world as it should be.  scotts are high energy individuals with a short attention span.  They make decisions quickly (because they are so certain of themselves).  scotts can be quick to anger however they hardly ever hold a grudge.  And why? scotts are of the present.  They like to be the focus of attention. (down boy, almost finished)

scotts are often misunderstood.  There is no delicate way to say it – they are often thought of as assholes.  Many of them are but more often than not scotts possess a soft, tender side.  My advice:  learn the Wakefield Doctrine, the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers and you will learn how to handle not only the scotts in your life but the clarks and rogers as well.  It may take a little time but once you catch on it can not only be fun but it can bring positive results to both your work life and home life.  Who doesn’t want to live a less complicated life?

View the vid clip and take note to the scotts attempting to establish ranking.  Take further note to the ultimate, good natured (but do not test me) roger that is our Capt. Kirk. (“No way like the Federation way”.)

Next sessionWhere there is a clark there is always a scott/where there is a scott there is always a clark.

lets hear it for the girl

Thank jethro, there is hope for the Wakefield Doctrine blog!  Yesterday the sun set on a bleak, lifeless toxic plain strewn with rusty cars and insect ridden corpses that is the Land of the Downsprings…for those of you who follow our humble adventure, you witnessed a demonstration of the the alignment that dares not speak it’s name.  They all (actually just glenn and the roger) insisted that they could not locate the future site of the NEW! weekly feature…the Good, the Bad…Decide Right Now!

…”there (was) no joy in Mudville”

But, as often happens after such a bleak, bleak night this morning showed a Comment from DownSpring Joanne…(and I quote):

    “I found the globey thing…yippee!!”

yippee!! indeed.  If I were not a clark, genetically ill-equipped to experience the state of yiposity, I would be all over dat emotional state.  But I am able to express this; (DownSpring) Joanne, the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers) owes you a total debt of gratitude. You have pulled this duct-tape and baling-wire enhanced blog from a sinkhole of in-conflict and controversi-ette and we  back on the interstate!

Considering the state of munifience that DownSpring Joanne’s Comment has put me in, we have moved the “G…B…Decide Right Now” feature to the top of the column that it occupied.  So where the Fashion Center used to be (as we say in Wakefield’s Home State), you will find: the Good…the Bad…Decide Right Now!!, just below the Lead Story. (Sorry to mess you up glenn,  suspect you had your secretary use a Sharpie and draw an “X” on your monitor of where to look for the Good…the Bad…Decide Right Now!!  Dude, you can always get a new monitor).

A little more about the new feature and then on to our Lesson of the Day.
Still not sure how this thing will work.  If you go there now you will see a list of Cooking Shows with links to their respective homepages.  If I can, I will put links in for a sample of their (respective) shows.  Since I do not yet know about pluggin in a poll, I guess we’ll just have to wing it with Comments and see where we go. The category is pretty workable for this purpose, as nearly everyone can watch a cooking show even if they can’t cook.  Stay tuned.

The Wakefield Doctrine Lesson of the Day.  Temporary alignment of types (clarks, scotts and rogers).  Readers will be familiar with this phenomenon, as we have witnessed it through Comments to Posts right from the very start.  Let’s say there is a Post dealing with the innately awful nature of rogers, or the horrifyingly predatory worldview of scotts or the sweetly, overly well informed people who are the clarks.  Invariably one of the three will come to the defense of the one being attacked.  Or so it would seem.  These seem to be ‘sympathetic’ reactions as there is never a long term collaboration. It is almost as if a ‘balance’ must be maintained, that if a scott is pushed too far, beyond their capacity to resist, or even to defend themselves (yes, that is quite possible) then a roger, or a clark will step up in defense of them.  And this seems to apply to all three equally. (Given that all three are involved) criticise a clark past a certain point and one of the other two will come to their defense.
One…not both.
The Doctrine maintains that we are all in possession of the qualities that collectively are referred to as clarks, scotts and rogers.  And that at a certain point we become predominately one (over the other two).  The ‘left behind’ qualities do not go away, they remain as potential to one degree or another.  This is why something like this blog is possible, those participating have their ‘other two’ qualities in a higher state of integration than do most people.  I can ‘get’ rogers or scotts or clarks because, to a certain degree, I identify with them.

Alright, enough of the Lesson.  Mr. B!!! get your pre-rogerian carcass out of the janitor’s closet…hey you gave up the timeline you were on, for the girl.  Dude, I am so sure it was all worth it.  You are real good at the music vids…lay something on us.  Something that Ms. J  should enjoy.

The rest of this thing should be normal looking

…screw this…let’s go with the original premise from last night, the “hey I’m so sleepy and don’t want to write this Post, but another ‘person’ insists that I do and I maintain an implied dialogue with this ‘other person’ which is indicated by “dialogue in parentheses”.  Sure why the hell not?

(…Hey!, anyone around to help me with this?…Britney? you back yet?….(I know Janie is still on ‘Grand Tour’) (hey! watch that parenthesis within parenthesis…dude, you gonna fall into your monitor, this is now an aside to yourself, while pretending to be speaking to someone ‘off stage’ while doing a setup for a Post)  (rats!  lost track of the parenthesis) (((( you know you’ve done this trick before))))….italics!!! god! I’ll never get out of this!!!Cut it out!
(Who is that?…oh you Mr. B….fuck….yeah, why the hell not add a reference to personal emotional/psychological car wreck to the mix?….lol…sure I remember that time…alright ready?…)

What time is it? (…Oh I didn’t hear you come in….morning? already? damn!!…) (…No, you don’t get any lines…dude, you got the girl! are you rogers never fuckin satisfied?…shhh…)

Good Morning  (…no, they can’t see you…) Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers) Monday Morning Marathon! (…hey sometimes a little alliteration helps…) Glad you could make it.  Yes, there is a lot of grammatical junk in this Post (…shh, they’re on to the device…) please disregard the implied character in parenthesis.  I assure you there is a reason for it and that it will all make sense before you finish reading this Post. (…yeah, they’re buying it…)

The subtitle?  No, there is no point to a contest; here can’t be anyone who does not recognise the work of the Monkees. (…no, they don’t care who the real writers were, “no quotation marks” “What?” damn you’re right! no, no time for that let’s just hope they go along with it…no, not another level of implied conversation…you speak to me and I’ll answer…). (… you’re sure? they wrote that too?…)(Sure lets use ellipseseses to imply the dialogue)(…oops…. forgot…)

As most of our Readers will recognise, today’s subtitle is a lyric frame from theme song to the 60′s show ‘The Monkees’.  What I did not know, until just recently was that the theme was written by Boyce & Hart, as was apparently everything else (musical) on the show. I knew that Boyce & Hart wrote most of the songs used on the show and were huge in the pop music scene.  By the way, you should go to the wikipedia page for Boyce & Hart, take a look at the picture (of them). Tell me that they are not a roger/clark team. (…What? hey I’m on a roll, should give glenn something to react to, you know how he likes the discography…no!  really? shit I bet I don’t  know much of anything…well, now that I know, I gotta…)

And while Boyce & Hart wrote most of the songs, did you know that Neil Diamond wrote  ”I’m a Believer”?
Yes, yes he did.  That boy did get around, talk about ‘range’ in talent.  For that matter, Paul Anka also was no slouch.  The work that he accounts for creates a lot of  the musical landscape in the  1950s and 1960s.  But, that is a Post in and of itself, for today it is enough to use a line from a pop song to get the Post started.
Yes,  it is time for the Wakefield Doctrine  Lesson of the Day.  Monday edition.

The Lesson is this.  We know that clarks are the creative ones. (Continuing the music metaphor), that would make scotts the ‘front man’ and rogers the producers/arrangers/rhythm section.  In theory, all musical groups are comprised of all three types, but most songwriting teams consist of two people, usually a clark and a roger but nearly as often a  scott and a roger.  I suppose a roger/roger is possible, but does anyone out there believe it is possible for a scott/scott or a clark/clark team to exist? (…what? out of time? shit….gots to find a hook…get some music ready…)
Here is an odd thought (… lol, I agree, that is a relative term…) Can anyone out there think of a song/music writing team that is female based, i.e. excepting individual female song writers, ala Carole King, Alannis etc,  does anyone know of a counterpart to Boyce & Hart, Lennon & McCartney of the female persuasion?

(…Alright, while the Readers are scratching their heads, let’s put up a vid or two and get the hell out….oh, thanks for the “help”…no…no I mean it! we always did work together well…clark/roger before there were the terms…lol no this is no denouement…we don’t need no steekin denouement….promotion?…hey I’ll think about it… yeah maybe after a while…she’s a student for god’s sake!…you rogers…yeah I know…but there is a chance this thing will dry up and blow away before then…yes I have two lines written in the screenplay…not sure where…sure it was a significant episode in the story of the Doctrine,  but I don’t know that anyone will get anything from it…yeah, it is late)

Hello.

The thinking around the Doctrine of late,  has been, “hey do we help/let/inform the new Readers of the Wakefield Doctrine sufficiently so that this sometimes…eccentric?(nah)…eclectic?(warm but still not)…ecclesiastical? (no! god no)…blog  is clear to the first time Reader?
(or to put that in scottian terms, “Hey! you gettin this or what?”)
Today’s Post will be a review and outline, if you will, of the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers).  A definition of the Doctrine, it’s goals and an outline of the ways and means (as roger might say) that we employ to present this thing of ours to you the Reader.  So read, learn, enjoy (and buy a hat).

You regular Readers,  think of this as a surprise Teachers Conference Day (you remember those days off that were never the same time year to year, but were also not regular holidays so you could be home and your parents and the rest of the world went on about it’s business, and you got to see the world like a bunk day without the threat of getting caught?)  You people can skip to the bottom (no, not literally clark) and see what Mr. B has ‘provided’.  We will catch up with you at the end, have some news and current events so don’t just leave after the videos.

OK  back to our Presentation…

The Wakefield Doctrine is a fun and useful way to view and understand the behavior of those around us, at home and at work and at play.  Some might call it a system of personality types, and while we do have three ‘types’ (clarks, scotts and rogers), we are not setting out to assign certain behaviors to the types.  Instead we say, here is how this person perceives the world.  (Their) behavior always follows from that.  Not the other way around.  This blog has pages for each, clark, scott and roger, click on the link and you can get more detailed information about each.
So that is what the Wakefield Doctrine is, what we are trying to do is bring it to as many people as possible.  We have found that once a person gets the basic concept and identifies the types of people around them, there is no turning back.  And this is a good thing.  If you understand how a scottian person perceives the world, you will know how they will act in any situation.  The same for clarks and rogers.  Then combine this knowing how others will act with your knowledge of your own type, and you got it made in the shade.  If you know you are a clark and you are dealing with a roger, then (as the song says) ‘you won’t get fooled again’.  (Not that it is only about getting fooled, but it is totally about understanding how others see you and how your own view of the world is only one of three possible ways to perceive it.)

So that is the what is the DoctrineWho is the Doctrine is also pretty straightforward.  You will see reference to Progenitors and Downsprings. Progenitors are the three handsome/striking/slightly odd gentleman in the photo in the upper left of this page.  The Downsprings are the people who help write this thing of ours, people who learned of the Doctrine and are basically self-taught but show a gift for expressing the Doctrine.  You will see them in Posts and Comments and other places around here, be sure to say hi.  And finally there are Friends of the Doctrine.  These are people who we have met since the blog started and have been of help and support, Mel at the Spatula, Jason at Project: Enlightenment, Ronin at the Renaissance, Pixieblonde at Secondlifewith… as well as others like Kino and Jen and others.

How we do this thing, present the Doctrine is where it gets interesting.  We try to present some facts (about the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers) with each Post, but often we create a format just to present the information in an entertaing or amusing way.  You will find Posts that have Interviews with Downsprings and Progenitors, you will find an ‘Advice Column’ in one Post (written by the very capable Ms. AKH) and finally you will find Posts that (appear to) take place in a High School.  Specifically a certain Millard Fillmore High, and even more specifically in the 11th grade AP class: CSR 101.  Not only that but you will find characters that return again and…

Characters?  You better smile when you say that, even if you are a Progenitor!  Never mind him…what he is trying to say  (can you say pedantic? lol) there is a storyline here that seems to be developing sort of in it’s own.  Starring!  yours truely…Janie….Janie Sullivan…like you haven’t gone and looked me up!…as if…anyway these ‘people’ seem to bore easily and then resort to making up situations that involve me and my bff  Britney and even our childhood friend Jimmy.  Well…being easily distracted  once we showed up, (the rogers first CSR 101 class) there was no keeping us quiet, but they’re ok  just a little stuffy sometimes…except that Glenn..‘would you like a tegretol in your coffee, Mr M?  Anyway we are the entertaining aspect to this Doctrine thingie…but I have to say  it is all true…just ask Teacher…he is such a roger…lol  see ya

So there you have it.  The Wakefield Doctrine.  What.  Who.  How. Why, when, where or some damn thing…

What?  Oh sorry and there is the estimable Mr. B who has come to us to help us stay amused and entertained.
