TToT -the Wakefield Doctrine- ‘there, all set for the weekend.’

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

‘Una’s garden ready for Winter’s white quilt.’

The Ten Things of Thankful (TToT) bloghop was created by L Lewis way back in 1997. Given the fact the blogosphere had not been discovered, (or at least as well mapped as it is now), there was little participation. Her idea was a sound one and so, it survived until the (virtual) world caught up. Fast forward to sometime in the early 21st C and the Founderess realized that the time(s) were right. As is the case with many trailblazers, pioneers, experimenters, outsiders and explorers, L. tried it out on herself first. A one (wo)man blgohop. Word got out and soon people started gathering around.

hey! Here’s the line up in 2013: *

* I had 27 TToT post comments circa 2013. Except for a few people who switched from blogger to wordpress (I’m looking at you, zoe) and one or two who got to all the old Yearbooks with a pair of scissors… (totally looking at you, Considerer). But the rest? All of the links lead back to the original TToT post at their respective blogs. I looked (and I followed the links on a couple) and thought, ‘Man! This is good for at least 3 Grat Items.’ But then I got this ‘err, clark? Just a smidge on the wrong-side of edgy… maybe a little stalky, don’t ya think?’ and I had to agree. So if you want to find the wardrobe to 2013, ya gotta discover it for yourself.

Today the TToT is made available each week courtesy of the hard work and positive vibes of Josie Two Shoes. It may seem a simple thing, but given the attention and, more than anything, the energy that it takes to get this herd of hyper-literate cats heading in one direction? Way more than most of us are able to muster. Thanks, J!

On with the Grats!

1)  The secret history of our-own-selfs inherent in the above-referenced blog posts. Available to all of us who have the necessary curiosity, spare time and rainy day.

2) The natural reticence of clarks. One of the qualities of clarks that makes it so difficult for us to participate in a free and open society/culture is our reluctance to reveal information about other people. That person you, (and everyone else), knows who’s a good listener? …yep, a clark. While we’re way too free with the information we squirrel away every waking moment, we are loath to pass along what we consider to be personal information, which tends to be everything except that which everyone already knows. Problem comes from society/culture being grounded, in part, in the exchange of valued information. On the positive end of that spectrum: an open and caring environment with people sharing their lives freely; on the negative end: gossip.

3) Seems to be a Wakefield Doctrine sorta TToT. So let’s make Number 3: the Wakefield Doctrine.

4) We got a new furnace this week.

5) Kerry. I’m grateful for having the opportunity to meet her here in the ‘sphere. And I’m grateful for the thing I’ve been doing with photos. The ‘description’ thing? That’s been a challenge, a benefit and a way to practice the writing thing, a direct result of knowing Kerry. Actually.

6) …gotta give props to Kristi on this. She was my inspiration to do something more with photos on my TToT posts. (Some people are good and make sure you know it. A much, much smaller number of people are good and don’t expend any energy in self-promotion. They do good things for people because that’s who they are.) I’m not certain when she started writing descriptions as captions to her photos, but once I noticed, I thought, ‘Hey! What an excellent thing to do. I bet I can do that!‘   lol, well, kinda. Kristi’s descriptions are direct, sufficient and simple to the point of being elegant. My own, well, it’s understood (because the Doctrine tells us), my people are more inclined to…. follow the path less travelled? yeah! I like that.

7) The Graviteers. Val and Joy, Kristi and May

8) Una

9) Phyllis

10) Secret Rule 1.3 (From the Book of Secret Rules, aka the Secret Book of Rules and states, in part: “[t]he completion of a list of Ten Items is, in and of itself, a legitimate Grat Item and, may, provided it conforms to all reasonable, conventional and standard practices in placement (on said List) be cited as an Item. The anticipation (and therefore manifestation) of the completion considered, from an achronicological perspective1, to have already occurred, despite, and, this constitutes warning to the Reader of the risk of infinite regression, the fact that it (the completion) cannot be said to exist until it is numbered, which can only follow the realization of the fact of completion.op.cit. ibid

1) Yes, it is understood that, given the non-rational nature of emotion, the world of the Herd Members (rogers) is, essentially, achronicological… so, the next time you’re have a ….’discussion’ with a roger and for some reason tempers are about to flare (like that‘that is to say, with a slightly more positive correlation as the sun rising in the morning, as opposed to the evening. ever happens with rogers) and they (the roger) suddenly get a distant look in their eyes, ask them, “What?” And even though they are not likely to answer truthfully, know that they (the roger) just flashed on some wrong done to them (real or imagined) when they were freshman in high school (or seniors in college, or just back from their honeymoon, or yesterday while standing in line at the Dunkin Donuts). And that moment is as real as whatever it is you two are arguing about.

(you’re welcome)

Who wants to hear some Biz Markie…ok, maybe some Falco?

Ok, if you insist, we’ll take a vote.

Still time to Vote!!

Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Wait a minute… (yes, yes, the TToT’s are awesome hahaha), but rogers DON’T lose their tempers!? WHAT!? So who does! Okay…we know the scotts are kind of explosive. THEY lose their tempers. And then clarks…when pushed into a corner, THEY lose their tempers. But rogers don’t? So like…Jesus must have been a clark. HAHAHA. Buddha…must have been a roger. I don’t think he ever lost his temper. But he could have been a clark…he ducked the conventional to go sit under a tree and leave his wife behind…And let’s see…perhaps Ganhi was a clark. He seemed to lose his temper but then that compelled him to action. This is all very interesting. So…if someone loses their temper, they’re either a clark or a scott…and so then…are you SURE rogers don’t lose their tempers!?
    lol

Aiyee! Clearly an italics malfunction on my part.
      rogers do get mad*
Will and fix it, like I ever make mistake typing…lol

As ways, your Comments are always of a nature that inspires large replies, if not an entire post!
      Very excellent

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      follow-up on my earlier comment….
      scotts get angry
      rogers get mad
(clarks don’t, except sometimes and then they get crazy)

      • Sageleaf says:

Yes, well. I’ve had my share of crazy moments. In other news…all these great spiritual leaders: I’m having a revelation. I think most of them were clarks! Since many of them are people I look up to, this is most excellent. My hero of the day: Captain Archer in these Enterprise re-runs that I really like to walk-in-place to. HAHAHA

        • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

I totally agree… (it’s often said that rogers are religious and clarks are spiritual which implies that the number of followers will tend to vary, particularly in the individual’s lifetime.)
other-worldly is more commonly an attribution of clarks, will charismatic goes with the rogerian leaders (religious or spiritual)

  2. Sageleaf says:

And Amadeus…the rhythm in that song – just seeing it in that poll, well now I have to go find the video and listen….

  3. Sageleaf says:

I like the film version. Listening now. And I need to get a life. lol

  4. MindOverMeta says:

Is Una pleased with the garden? What are you planning on planting there? :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

I believe she is… Phyllis had good luck with the squash and other semi-inedibles my tomatoes and corn did not fare as well. Fallow for now.

  5. Pat B says:

I’m glad you were able to get a new furnace before the onset of the really cold weather. Hopefully the old furnace didn’t die in the midst of a storm, although that would be quite the motivator to speeding up the order.
Una is very likely to find more than just the path to summer among those leaves. :-)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

that is actually why we chose to get the furnace now… the old one was about 30 years old and the nature of such equipment is there is a point of final failure. We thought, do it now, when it’s not yet necessary or wait until a cold February day…
Una does not seem to mind the non-Summer as much as I do

  6. messymimi says:

A list to make me smile, especially the last item.

  7. How I have missed your mind-bending posts in the last couple weeks that I haven’t been around! I must admit that I thought of you and the Wakefield Doctrine often during the nine days of my daughter being here with me installing the flooring. A Clark she is not, though we do have some similarities. At times I almost wanted to laugh at the textbook examples of my perceptions of my life as opposed to her of her own! Knowing a little more helped me to be more flexible/understanding… thank you! :-)

The Una Garden is back to proper form, but lonely and will hopefully be the starting point of new green stuff come Spring! I was thinking about how much children would enjoy having gardens in their own names or even first initial if there was a bunch! :-)

I do love going back through the history of my blog posts and others, sometimes I am surprised at the clarity of my writing ten years ago, and I enjoy seeing how blogging relationships have developed into friendships and more.

We are also thankful for our new furnace this week, and for how reliably cozy warm the house now is as opposed to last year. A necessary expense, and certainly increased efficiency over the older models.

Love the late Autumn photo of Phyllis and Una… and the quote, it’s frameworthy! I totally agree with you about Kerry and Kristi too… two wonderful women I’ve had the pleasure of meeting through TToT, they each inspire me in their own ways by doing rather than by preaching.

I’ll be back to read your earlier TToT posts at some point this week before moving ahead, stopping here is always fun, and I thank you for the unique presence you bring to TToT! Have a great week ahead, Clark! :-)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

It’s amazing how fast time passes, all the more so when it’s marked by the change in seasons. Everything is reset to last pre-winter, with changes, of course. lol… getting ahead of myself, not wanting use up any ‘end of year’ retrospective posts! I’ve been utilizing the Doctrine of late, still get a kick from how, when looking at a situation from the perspective of one ‘of the other two’, I get an entirely/slightly different take on it. Still enjoy how much the world (and the people in it) cooperate by acting in the way described in our little personality theory.

  8. Kristi says:

Thank you for that very kind comment. Sometimes, though, I think, “I should write more descriptive captions, like Clark writes!”

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

(as with so much in this rather literal medium) I hold your succinct descriptions as an ideal, knowing that I will still tend to write more than less, yet by doing so I will tend to make more of less. very much a fun exercise.
