TToT -the Wakefield Doctrine- patchwork edition*

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Humphrey-Bogart

*patchwork, n. 1) something made up of an incongruous variety of pieces or parts; hodgepodge: 2) work made of pieces of cloth or leather of various colors or shapes sewed together

This week with no snow on the ground, I can say, without fear of contradiction that I’m grateful for:

1) Co-hostinae for the support, dare we say, the encouragement to put up Posts that challenge the orderly mind who, coming upon our little gratitude bloghop, think. “oh look! a gratitude blog with a list format, how enjoyable it will be to read something that’s straightforward and logical as ‘1 through 10′! I will surely enjoy this TToT although why they insist on abbreviating such a delightful name as Ten Things of Thankful’ is a mystery!’**

2) the zen of breakfast

3) Walking with Una and my car on a Friday afternoon

4) Phyllis

5) Modern technology allowing so much to be done with so little to so many!

6) the Graviteers of the Gravity Challenge (proud to be a part of the group)

7) vidchats (even if no one shows up! no, don’t worry… I wasn’t hurt sitting alone in front of my computer, explaining to Una how everyone will surely be along…any minute now and, after I ate all the Fritos, the ghost of High School Social Development Past…. with the sound of telephones not ringing appeared in the room and said one name:  ‘Nancy Jackson’ and my head swelled up and my face fell… I turned and said, “These are the shadows of things that have been. That they are what they are, do not blame me! I don’t need your clearsil anymore! Be gone!!

8) fulfilling the unspoken contract between humans and canines

9) Chapter 14 Blogdominion  two words: ‘sex and (implied) violence’  come on! my personal literary ideal is a cross between Raymond Chandler, Quentin Tarentino and Robert Scheckley, you surely should not be surprised.  Anyway. ‘In Chapter 14 we learn that Orel and Stephen are not the only ones interested in Unit 17, Sister Margaret Ryan is very much in conflict, as she finds herself needing some of the qualities and skills from her life before becoming a nun and keeping the other, more fundamental drives and passions at arms length… Maribeth, no longer content walking on the edge, has thrown caution to the wind and is starting to jog…and Ed Willoughby, well, lets just say that when Detective Hartley arrives at the Omni Corp, old Ed, he gots some ‘splainin to do.  If none of this makes sense, then you need to go to the beginning and read the whole story!’***

10) SR 1.3

** well, sure I believe that many people talk out loud to themselves as they surf the internet, and affect the linguistic mannerism of the late 19th Century, don’t you?

***ok if you don’t have time to read and want a synopsis, then you need to host a vidchat

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

I think reading Blogdominion in a stop and go manner of week to week is making me lose parts of the story in my head. I either need a synopsis or I need to restart and read it all at once… I am getting confused … I am prone to getting lost in stories … and not reading it in one piece is doing that to me I think. Does that make sense? I hope to be at vid chat next week. I did text you but…My favorite line this week is “That’s three s***s.” during your walk with Una… Frist?

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      frist

well, you bring up an interesting (possible) effect of serialization… one that I now suspect I need to adapt to…. which is “when last we left our….”

the staggered effect of reading a serial is magnified for the writing, I find that it is helpful to the point of being necessary that I read the pervious Chapters in order to restore my sense of ‘Reader Time’…. i.e. how is this story reading to the person sitting down with the whole thing. Probably a very standard and fundamental challenge in this writing biz, just have to learn and adapt as I go…

as usual, your input is helpful and therefore appreciated greatly

…you might want to start at the beginning and read it through, the plot is picking up speed (another bit of accepted advice on my part)

  2. Denise says:

I wonder…will any wildlife (turkeys maybe) utilize the treehouse? :D
Very cool. Turkeys in your yard! That would make me rethink Thanksgiving dinner. lol

I’m going to go back and re-read Blogdominion from the beginning. I like how I’ve already gotten my favorite characters and how they have become very real! It is different, this serial reading.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

so who are your favorite characters?

(you know, I’m thinking that, when I get published, I’ll rent out characters in the series… so you might want to give some thought as to who you might want to be (new character or assume an existing one))

  3. lrconsiderer says:

Now then, I came along to the vidchat just as soon as I could, and it was like a flashback to 4am and no-one there. And then I happened upon Kerry (later) who told me that she’d been trying to access it too, but to no avail!

It is NOT a thing of the past, and it’s FAR more in-depth and lovely than just a summary of the TToT. We talk about all things under the sun and I love it. I was gutted to miss out :(

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

Venus must surely be retrograde…. is there an Astrologer in the house??!

I think the soulotion will be to include the thread in some posts…. and may we need to more the window (of the start time) forward or back in time? earlier or later.

  4. herheadache says:

I arrived late and it wouldn’t connect. It was Lizzi who explained to me, later in the evening, that it was likely because it wasn’t happening.
I guess you will get that, along with the honour of being the one to host, but as I am so bad with technology, I really do appreciate that someone knows what they are doing and it has always been you who sends out the chat request to my FB messenger.
I really did regret missing it, but along with the celebrities who died this week, there was a death a little closer to home around here. Just ended up with a headache and napping, when I realized what time it was.
    All our losses.
    :-)
Hope it will continue because it is a nice thing to do on a Friday night, as an alternative to the loss of loved ones or strangers alike.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      good point.

despite (or perhaps, in a sense, even more so) the incredibly advanced technology we have at our disposal, getting together with others is still fraught with hazard. I will make a point to raise the topic (and thereby) firming plans for next week. As I raised the question to Lizzi below, how does the time work… should this be a later, rather than earlier start time?

  5. Christine says:

I’m sorry to hear the vidchat didn’t work out this week. The picture you portray is almost as sad as my dad’s selfie at a guestless 4th of July party. I’m guessing next week you will have a full house. Or is it a full computer?
Taking a walk with Una and my car. Ha!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      (thank you, scott)

;] Hey, I got through high school and despite the emotional scarring and pitiless inhabitants of this ghostly virtual world….

I laugh (as I suspect you are), there has been nothing in what I’ve done, encountered or been the recipient of in this blogosphere that has caused me to feel sadness or regret… (well, maybe a little regret at not being able to keep up sometimes) but, serially, I’m grateful for the people in whose company I’ve been accepted, here in wonderland.

  6. A says:

Ok, so what’s the deal with the Friday vidchats? Is there a test to pass? A secret code? Do I need to be in for 90 days first? Asking for a friend…

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

google hangouts no secret password (other than ‘patience’ as it seems that the audio is squirrely for all coming on the first time)… I send invitations both directly and posted to ‘the Facebook’ and or message and or…. other
there’s a long (for the internet) history and lore of vidchats, but always best to save those stories for the actual chat which is pretty much anything anyone feels like discussing it has been described as ‘a rousing good time’ and ‘interesting people, close to a Thursday night in the dorm’ and ‘damn!’
the challenge has been scheduling the time.
Watch today’s Doctrine post and I’ll include a way for people to suggest the start time (which, in the past has been as early as 6:30 EST and as late as 8:00 EST)

I would love to have you attend and I know that you would enjoy the company

  7. Oh no! What a bummer about the vid chat but yay to Fritos and not being judged for eating the entire bag all by yourself. Did you eat the whole bag? See I have no self control when it comes to chips. This 100 pounder can throw down chips.
Maybe the next one will be better?
I’m always curious to know what people’s voices sound like — I assign voices in my head to people when I read blogs.
Yes, I do take medications. :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

you totally have to join us on our next one (God willing this coming Friday early evening)…. (damn! you’ve got me doing it! actually I’m trying to decide which voice I’d use for me…. somewhere between James Earl Jones and Kermit the Frog)

  8. Pat B says:

There was absolutely nothing zen about the way our dogs ate their meals or snacks. It was pretty much “gulp” and it was gone! Thank you for letting us go on the walk with Una. :-) So sorry that the missing bodies for the vidchat brought back any memories of High School Social Development Past. I think just about anyone can relate to some of those awkward moments. Hopefully the usual group and more will be there next time. Once upon a time there were those serial stories in magazines that people looked forward to reading, back when we didn’t have so much reading material before our eyes sans computer, Kindle, phones that have everything on them, etc. I need to catch up on Blogdominion, but I’m not doing a very good job of keeping up with reading other’s blog posts and commenting.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

lol…(of the three dogs we’ve had in the family, over the years) Una is the only one to express her gratitude, so

no, I will survive (please! no Gloria Gaynor!)… perhaps it is age and or maturity, but the effects on me of the non-event are different than they would have been… lol, I know! no kidding! but what I do get from this thing is a renewed sense of purpose… while it might not resonate quite as strongly with scotts and rogers, I know that the Wakefield Doctrine is noticeable by clarks and I can’t help but think, ‘if only there is a young(er) clark out there…how much of the difficulty we create for ourselfs (see Post) that could be by passed…

  9. OK, what happened with that vidchat? I got a link from you…I tried to get on and nobody was there. Itried many times, saw Kerry logged in, but couldn’t connect…tried again and nobody home. Sigh.
And of course this week, tomorrow, I think we’ll be home late so that’s upsetting. But if we’re doing it, I’ll pop in as soon as we’re home.
Great list, of course. I love that Phyllis gets “Phyllis.” Speaks much of her awesomeness. You’re thankful for the whole package, no explanation necessary.
    Rambling…tired and sick.
