Wednesday -the Wakefield Doctrine- ‘so much ado about nothing, is what she’d try to say’

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

the Wakefield Doctrine is a perspective on the behavior of the people in our lives and a way to better understand the underlying context of our own interaction with the world each day.

the Assessment we ran in yesterday’s Post is always fun, in part, because it’s premise lies in everyday situations that we all encounter, in one form or another. One of the hallmarks of popular ‘your-personality-type’ quizzes,  is the set of survey questions, (usually found in popular magazines, tabloid newspapers or nowadays, online) that reveal much about human nature. It’s been said in these pages, about these ‘personality tests’, that they are ‘club-shaped mirrors’. We say that for the simple reason that, more often than not, the second thing a person who has read one will be heard to say is, “Honey? come here! you have to take this survey, it so has you down to a ‘T'”
Which is why we say, ‘the Wakefield Doctrine is for you, not them’. This is a clever (and hopefully rememberable) way to remind us that all the Wakefield Doctrine offers is: a) an additional perspective and 2) an opportunity to further understand ourselves and, by doing so, better understand the people in our lives.

the Wakefield Doctrine is not:

  • the Answer… hell, it’s barely one among the countless possible Answers… nope! not even going that far, it’s one of the (better) Questions (to ask oneself, if, oneself has a genuine interest in understanding the people in their lives)
  • …a way to get people to change the behavior that is clearly not good for them:  i.e. ‘he can’t make up his mind between a Lawnboy 43 Power Cutter and a Lawnboy 34 Power Cutter (with grass catcher free!!) and wants to go back to home depot for a 4th time to get another look’; …’if she won’t stop talking about the person who cut in line at the supermarket, despite the fact that everyone in the line, even the checkout girl (with all the jewelry stuck on her face!) all scowled and clearly disapproved of the behavior and they still cut in line’;  …’your son/daughter, who has all of the best in sneakers and running shoes and brothers and sisters and everything else for fun-in-the-sun insists on sitting somewhere with those books/games/drawing pads and be by themselves’   the Wakefield Doctrine will not change them*
  • a way to convince yourself that: what you think (and somehow know better)/ you keep doing (and despite the increasingly negative backlash)/ feel all the time, even though you know better than to feel that way   however

the Wakefield Doctrine is one more way to see/appreciate/understand our behavior and the behavior of the people in our lives.

… if there is a proper way to use the principles of the Wakefield Doctrine, it is to be able to see the world as the other person is experiencing it.

* unless….  they happen upon this here blog here, then well, that’s a different story… but you already knew that, didn’t you?

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

So basically what you’re saying is the Wakefield doctrine is not a way to kvetch at my partner or otherwise win an argument. True? Lol

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

true….’cept for the winning of the argument (that the Doctrine totally helps assure!)

      • ivywalker says:

I should have said brag about winning an argument…. hey who is the doggy on the home page?

        • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

unknown dog… (a google photo)…but doesn’t it (the photo) scream ‘lovably mischievous scott’ ? lol

damn! sorry I did not read carefully to understand the use of the word ‘kvetch’, already!
