… oh yeah! damn! the TToT List! wait …wait!

The first photo (no, this is serious, I’d really like to know what kind of plant this is….any of you hortiologists out there can ID this thing?):

…I’d really appreciate it. Hey! #1 0T!

2) Clearly I was exhibiting some innate and underdeveloped gift of prestidigitization when I (sub)titled this Post last night, so I will also include a (Semi)closeup of the mystery plant later in Item 6 of this Post.

3) Una and the Rose Bush*

4) Our Founderette, Lizzi (not only for this bloghop, but for speaking a foreign language that her people have persisted in referring to as ‘English’) ex.

“The 7 GuardVirgins are responsible for guarding the Book of Secret Rules (or Secret Book of Rules) and if you can’t think of a Thankful, you are at liberty to dance for the 7 and if they give you the book, you can use a rule to justify your lack of actual thankful.

Rule 1.3 is an old favourite – that having got to item ten on the list is its own thing of thankfulness. :D”

…last time I checked there was no ‘u’ in favorite!   (now that I think of it, have then they, a different spellcheck demon over in Metric-ville?)

5) …but we still love her, so, everyone? lets don’t tell her she has misspelled the word ‘favorite’, in her Reply to Samara in the Comment thread at Considerings, it’ll be our little secret.

6) speaking  of little secrets, here’s another photo of the mystery plant…actually it’s the junior version of the plant in the lead photo…sorta reminds me of that episode of Star Trek, look on this!

7) so there, above, close-up of flower with a Bumble Bee

8) Seeing the increasing numbers of people new to this, the-bloghop-that-Lizzi-built, I’ll contribute my own opinion re: the Book of Secret Rules (aka the Secret Book of Rules)… it’s the best thing ever to happen to a bloghop. The simple reason is, whenever there is a theme, inevitably there develop limitations (self- and group-imposed) that, while not inherently bad, have the effect of encouraging the ‘what is expected effect’. And while I personally admire the more… sensible and well-written Posts that are seen here every week, it’s good to know that I’m still encouraged to participate. Having said that, the TToT remain a bloghop focused on the sharing (and appreciation) of the positive things in our (group, individual and collective) lives. …the cool thing is the very clear feeling in all the Posts that appear here each week…whether it’s a photo Post, or a clearly delineated list or a wildly meandering stream-of-consciousness thing… we’re all here by choice. This is probably an unnecessarily long-way around to say that what we have here is community.

9)  I’m grateful for having work that involves driving around and having properties that are located on totally cool names, such as:

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

  1. Vanessa D. says:

One wonders what life is like on Hell Hollow Road?

I believe your mystery plant may be common mullein, but it also wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been wrong about something. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verbascum_thapsus

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

…I get a distinct Ethan Frome/ Scarlett Letter vibe each time I go there… I’ll have to provide photos of the surrounding area, which is quite attractive very open land (corn and cows and such)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

I get a definite Ethan Frome/Scarlett Letter from the place (not Hell Hollow Rd, which is a road that runs down into, well, into a hollow) but for Voluntown CT at least the section of Voluntown where Hell Hollow starts

  2. Kristi says:

    Frist?

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

cleverly, yet inexplicably disguised as a common mullein, Vanessa managed to get her comment in minutes ahead of yours well, played Ms D!

  3. Kristi says:

I think the plant is a foxglove.
I’d like to know what possessed someone to name that Hell’s Hollow. (And maybe possession had something to do with it? LOL.) We have a Devil’s Punchbowl near here, but it isn’t a street.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

foxglove? interesting will look up images as well…

zoe did some background research on Hell Hollow last week, some interesting stories relating to untimely deaths and moving graveyards but no direct accounting of why that hollow was named ‘Hell’

    • Denise says:

“We have a Devil’s Punchbowl near here, but it isn’t a street.”

OK Kristi, you can’t think you drop a line like that and not explain! LOL. If it’s not a street?
What an intriguing name! But for what?

  4. ivywalker says:

Kristi (above) taught me to do a photo search of google images and in doing so this is the closest I found to your photo… but I dont know…. https://pmcafee2013.wordpress.com/2014/06/23/plant-a-day-common-mullein/

We have a Witches Path that the local congregational church is on, and some Hell street that I cant recall the name of in my home town…

  5. ivywalker says:

my comments keep getting eaten… this is my last shot….https://pmcafee2013.wordpress.com/2014/06/23/plant-a-day-common-mullein/

  6. I was wondering where the list was… :D
I’d like to check out Hell Hollow street. I loved The Scarlet Letter, so that intrigues me very much.

  7. Kristi says:

I think my guess is wrong. I should have done a google image search, like I taught Ivy to do. :-)

  8. valj2750 says:

We had a couple of those large plants spring up in our yard when we were first landscaping. I’m not going to tell you what I called them, but it involves part of the male anatomy.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

you talked to Phyllis, didn’t you? lol ah well like minds and such ( repeat: lol*)

      * this is one of those deja vu Comments… which is not as mysterious on the internet as in the real world, what with comments appearing and disappearing by themselves… hey! maybe that’s it! the virtual world/internet? it’s the afterlife and they’re beginning to realize that they can have an affect!

  9. Maybe it is a RI thing, but I always thought that plant was milkweed?

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

I tend to associate milkweed with those ‘pod things’ that release the ‘dandelion-like things’ but that’s just me being overly technical

  10. herheadache says:

I spell favourite with a U, but I am Canadian.
    :)

  11. Lizzi is wrong in all of her wrongness when ever she tosses the errant ‘u’ into words. I don’t think that she will stop though. Maybe when she comes to Murica and sees how correctly we spell everything here she will begin to appreciate her wrongness.

I love Hell Hollow…just saying. Una and the rose bush is a winner.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

yeah that and treating articles like they were totally superfulus ain’t right… hope she doesn’t try to import any English food! bangers and mash is/are on the watch list, I understand

  12. Eh, you’re right…now that’s a cool name! A happy 4th, Clark.

  13. dyannedillon says:

#1 IT’S A BIG ASS WEED. GET RID OF IT.
#3 I believe that would be Una IGNORING the rose bush.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      lol

no! she’s guarding the house! (she knows that the woodland creatures (BamBee and her posse) will totally trash the yard, if she does not remain vigilant)

  14. MaryHill says:

I was going to say milkweed or milk thistle too. I know butterflies and bees love these. I love Hell Hollow. LOL By the way, I have been working on this comment for three hours. I know it doesn’t look like it. I typed on sentence had to run and then another and so on. ;)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

… I know what you mean, you’d be surprised how often it takes me longer to a write a Comment than it took to read the Post!

  15. christine says:

Aha! Now I know why Kristi wrote that super-helpful post about searching for an image!
It may be a weed, but it is the prettiest weed I’ve seen. I would leave it.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

yeah… wait til you put one of the images specific to your blog into the search…. humbling and interesting at the same time

yeah… and perennial (as long as we don’t run over it with the lawn mower early in the season), in fact, as you can see, we have two… and naturally now I’m seeing them all over the area as I drive….
