TToT -the Wakefield Doctrine- “…dispose the Day.”*

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

20150613_105439_resized

1)  that I have a bloghop to be a (co)-host for/to, which conveys a certain sense of belonging and, at the same time, a responsibility to  participate each week

2)  … grateful for the..something about the TToT that makes it exceptional, especially the very basic yet often under-emphasized principle (of an exercise like a gratitude blog) that maintains that the primary, initial value is the act of engaging in the exercise…  it’s not just writing 10 items that would appear to demonstrate a thankful for  attitude towards (one’s) life… it is (for me), the fact of doing it anyway. (Something our esteemed Founder demonstrated even before this ‘hop got started more than 2 years ago

3)  hey!  new TToTeers!! have you heard about hypo-gratitude? (yeah, there is such a thing!)  There are times and there are things that may possess a quality that, while overall is a good thing, at the same time there is a feeling associated with it…. that you don’t feel so grateful for… ambivalence might be a better word to describe it…

4) 2 Mile Run   I am genuinely grateful that today is Saturday, ’cause we have tomorrow (Sunday) off!  We don’t have  to run on Sunday.

5) I would say ‘gratitude’ for my work… but this has been one of those weeks that the term hypo-gratitude was coined to describe.

6) BoSR/SBoR   Hey!!!  anyone new to the TToT out there?  ask about the Secret Book of Rules (aka Book of Secret Rules) it is simply one of the most fun thing about this here bloghop here… so ask already!

7) SGV  ( you might want to check in with Lizzi or zoe/ivy )

8) Hey!!!!! don’t forget  TToLive!!  June 27 2015  You will be one of the people who are there… (oh oh!  Feel a Kenneth Branagh  speech coming on….  TToT a ‘household word’ indeed, “…we happy few, we band of bloggers“)

…(update!  I realized that I should have included more information!  TToT will be Live on Saturday June 27 2015 starting 10:30 EDT and ending 11:30 EDT… further details available, i.e. dress code, menu, assigned topics etc  stay tuned!

https://wwwyoutube.com/watch?v=A-yZNMWFqvM

9)  sweat; sweatiness; excess temperatue  I’m totally grateful for it.  (You know that old saying, ‘hot enough for ya?’… my answer is always, “Why no, it is not (yet) hot enough for me.”

10) * footnote for subtitle   I figured I better put the explanation here rather than at the bottom, because you will have just finished the vid clip and that phrase is, of course, one of the very last lines

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Comments

  1. ivy says:

    FRIST!

  2. ivy says:

Frist, SGVs and the BOSR… hypograts… its a language onto itself now isnt it?

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

that is a very true statement

      • ivy says:

not unlike, clarks, scotts, rogers and secondary , tertiary aspects and downsprings…..

        • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

no, of course not, that’s everyday, Norman Rockwell, Betty Crocker language!! “…jes us downhome, intradimensional folks, what like to spot the tourists and neologize they asses!”

  3. valj2750 says:

Have a nice rest day tomorrow. I may just walk anyway (for fun).

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      two words: ayiiee!

(no, I’m sure that recreational walking is fun… if you’re a girl ….lol (just in case we have any new Readers stopping by and they’re saying to themselves as they read, ‘well, this post is much too high brow and serious… wait a minute! did he just say…)

  4. Kristi says:

Good for you for #9. I can’t agree. Heat is one of the hardest parts of summer running for me–even indoors. The temps outside here are dancing closer and closer to triple digits, and I’m not so excited about it.

However, hurray for Sundays! Looking forward to a day off from running. I’m thankful for the challenge of the 2 Mile Run, though.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

its amazing how much I’ve come to like Sunday mornings more…lol

(I will continue to run in full sweatsuit (with hood) mostly because of the horseflies they are so incredibly aggressive that I would be afraid I would not be able to make it home for all of the blood loss from their attacks)

  5. So how freakish is it? Before writing my own ttot post this morning, I went to the utube. I don’t know why, but there were many Road Warrior clips chosen for my viewing pleasure. I clicked on the Humungous one. I think I used it once in a post years ago. I decided not to use it for my post today, but come over here and voila! A Road Warrior photo!.And, yes. A most excellent movie.

That aside, I never considered the “hypo gratitude” thing. And so, reading the reminder of such things in your post….it’s something to consider. Certainly a source of “enlightenment”?
This, my comment, way too late into a Saturday night. Sorry I missed the Call In. Small humans had other plans;)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

yeah… funny thing about a thing like ‘hypo-gratitude’… done properly you get to use it as something that is not to be thankful for…but at the same time come to appreciate it in a different light… I suspect a lot of the ‘negative’ things in one’s life would not do well with the kind of scrutiny we’re talking about.

  6. Clark, I’d have to agree with you……the reason we participate in this hop is, as you so well put it, hypo-gratitude. Hypo-gratitude=hypo-blessings!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

couldn’t agree more… it is this participation that makes all the difference in the world

  7. #6 *slams head on table* I don’t get it and I’ve asked

We were actually wearing sweaters yesterday. Yes, bundled up in sweaters. I do live in Canada so that could be the reason why our summers are so ass backwards. I welcome the sweat.

    • lrconsiderer says:

The Book of Secret Rules (or Secret Book of Rules) contains the elements which you can borrow/use when you run out of Thankful items, as long as you qualify *which* rule you use, and dance for the 7 GuardVirgins to be allowed to GET the book in the first place. The most famous rule is 3.1 (or is it 1.3?) which allows that the tenth item on your list can count as its own Thankful for having gotten that far.

It’s all a big piece of pretend which is just an added level of fun :)

      • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

(taking off spectacles to clean them. adjusting them back on face)… ” Miss Rogers is absolutely correct in the the BoSR/SBoR is a fun and useful tool for anyone engaging in a TToT weekend. I might add that as a tool, it is truly not a shortcut or ‘cheat sheet’ as you young people might say… the energy to produce a credible citation that does not draw the (delightful) wrath of the SGVs is not inconsiderable. While certainly pretend, the fact is, rather than a list of pleasant things and happy events (which is welcome every time it can happen), for some of us the perception of these things in our lives takes a more….er roundabout approach. And that, class is why I started this Reply off with a visual of frumpy, older professor type….”

lol…. Readers? listen to Lizzi this is all fun, it doesn’t cost you anything (other than the negative side that we all have to varying degrees at different times)

        ya know?

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

hey! do you think anyone has come up with a tee shirt that has ‘I (heart sign) Sweat’ ? I’d buy one! well, maybe a sweat shirt version

  8. lrconsiderer says:

I still think your ordeals are mad but I know you’re learning from them. And I’m still glad for this hop, every single weekend.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      totally agree

..of late, I’ve been thinking of it in terms of detecting my limits, my life routines… you know, the same way as yesterday and the day before. It doesn’t need to imply staying in my head, but as Denise referred to (fairly obliquely) whenever we see ourselves act (deliberately or otherwise) out of character… i.e. beyond our normal routines then that is the time to note it…. that doesn’t mean I have to stop and try to re-order my life simply because I did something new, but it does mean that I need to note it and understand that the limits to my life are from within, not without

      ya know?

  9. Vanessa D. says:

While I’m not particularly fond of sweating, I am fond of the warmer weather we’ve been seeing. A little less rain would be appreciated though. Still summer is about the heat and as long as my A/C keeps things comfortable for sleep bring it on.

  10. Thanks for the 2-mile Run, Clark, finally got my butt off the couch after a little over a year (and while baby is already 10 months old. And I did not just 2 but over 4 miles. Legs hurt a little today, gardening or running?

Sorry I won’t be able to join the “live TToT”, we’ll be happily attending a wedding :-)

    Have a great week, Clark!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

… you know…. (lol) you could bring us all to the wedding! no, wait! we’ll be quiet (in your phone) and won’t shout… well maybe Dyanne or Christine, they might shout a little

anytime you run and you want to send in your time (to the 2 Mile Run) send it on and I’ll get it right up there… Kristi uses ‘the Facebook’ but as a comment that should work too

  11. dyannedillon says:

You know what? #1 is absolutely right. I have not missed a week of TToT since its inception, and I wasn’t an original post (I think I came on a couple of months into it). But knowing I have a responsibility as a host means I CAN’T miss a week, even if I wanted to. I may not always have time to get around to everyone’s posts (and THAT has only happened a couple of times, including last weekend), but I participate. Because I should. And because I want to.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

totally…. this week, work demands resulted in my not publishing until Sat afternoon, but I started the Post the same time as always, even though it consisted of ‘Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine’ and the numbers 1-10 in a vertical sequence… it’s not a bad thing

  12. amycake76 says:

I run on Sundays only. But I missed this week because I was eating BBQ in Asheville. It’s hot enough for me. Steamy enough, too.

  13. MaryHill says:

Hi, I never saw the book of rules. Guess I need to ask someone. I will do so on the Facebook page. Thanks for the exercise tip or quip? What is up with TToT live on June 27th. Guess it will be on the Facebook page. We all should do a real life conference or gathering or something. In person not virtual, but how would we pull of such a feat. I am rambling and falling asleep as I type. Sorry. Loved your post though.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

Well, it wouldn’t be much of a Secret Book of Rules (aka Book of Secret Rules) if it was, like sitting out there in the open, next to the butter dish (which we always leave out, so it can’t get to hard to spread)… lol no, just joking! the BoSR/SBoR is as much a challenge to all of us as it is an escape hatch, a note from your parent on the day that you really don’t want to take phys ed or that big kid you never speak to running interference for you, for no apparent reason, keeping you from getting your ass kicked at the bus stop.

The TToT Live! (‘we happy few…we band of bloggers‘) will be live Live as in google Hangouts… the video conferencing app…. more to follow in the next week.. you need to join us!! 10:30 to 11:30 am June 27, 2015

  14. I indeed have found the exercise and deliberate crafting of my thankfuls list each week to be therapeutic. Also the commitment to participate (although it is Tues and I’m still doing comments!)

  15. One of my favorite things about the TToT is the BoSR/SBoR. It answers all questions and sets all the standards. Or does it? I did a two mile run yesterday…I didn’t know about your project but even if I had I would not have posted the dismal time. I have a modicum of pride.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

aww come on…. pride is but (fill in some insightful, preferably semi-obscure-but-still-recognizable-Shakespeare here)…. Have you been to ‘the 2 Mile Run?’ lol times range from ‘no-fricken-way up to ‘hey-you-said-my-dog-could-participate’ most of us are in the 24 to 34 minute range (for elapsed time). We’re seriously into not competing and/or psyching each other out

there is nothing to not like about the Book of Secret Rules (aka Secret Book of Rules) except maybe SR 6.300.c

  16. Clark, I think I love the comments and banter here on your post more than anything. The language of the TToT is part of what makes it feel so much like home and family, and that is what keeps me coming back. I often say the TToT saved my life and I mean that in some very real ways. The practice of finding the good each week has kept me focused on those moments rather than the tougher moments of the last three years.
The 2 mile run…I’m going to endeavor to get some of that happening next week. Struggling with the old arthritis right now. Yes, yes, exercise makes it feel better but you have to be able to DO the damn exercise first for that to happen. Vicious cycle.
But anyway…so much good here in your post and again, most especially in the comments. I love this damn linkup.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Lisa

yeah… totally agree that the TToT has done things that no other bloghop I’ve encounter has done… that sense of someones living room (or backyard patio, weather-permitting) and a group of friends gathering.

      v cool
