Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

2bc67da4-86f3-429e-a594-2ef8083969ea

yeah, I like the title today. Unfortunately I am neither writer nor gourmand enough to pull off a ‘Grat List’ done with a menu/food item or sandwich theme. (lol… that kinda made me smile, ” WordPress proudly presents their newest blog theme: Open-faced Sandwich.) Yeah, I’m vamping* waiting for whatever it is that happens just before I start to type my way towards ‘The End’.  (oh man!! I just started to write the Post, and you know how sometimes you start to write something, a story or a memory or a Post and you feel like the idea is a good one, but you need to explore it more and then next thing you know you have 789 words and then you’re like,  “shit! I’ll never write my way out of this one!” and you don’t want to delete it ( 789 words!!!) so you decide to keep writing, figuring once the count gets over 1200 then you’ll be able to cut it back and hopefully, like a diamond cutter, you’ll have the gem of something that you won’t mind hitting ‘Publish’ on, you know? I’m kinda at that point.)

(wish me luck)

One: (lets, at least start with a food motif). I am grateful for cooking shows on TV, which might seem odd, seeing how I don’t cook and don’t really have a major interest in fine foods and cuisine..but then, I am, of course, a clark (for new Readers not familiar** with the personality types of the Wakefield Doctrine, that just means I enjoy learning new things and watching experts (of any sort) do their thing. A qualifier here: I don’t watch the ‘competition shows’ and I totally don’t watch the shows where the ‘star’ goes in to a restaurant and tells the losers (who apparently are so desperate for attention that they are willing to be abused for the entertainment of the audience) what losers they are and the show ends with them being so grateful. I don’t enjoy the ‘cooking contest’ shows mostly because it seems to me that the emphasis in on the loser and not the winner and not in a good way. Putting the disappointment of the person who tries but  doesn’t win is frickin sick. Anyway. The shows I do like? Alton Brown’s ‘Good Eats’, Guy Fieri’s ‘Diners, Drive-in and Dives’ and, of course…any show with Giada on it.  There was a cooking show that I don’t see on anymore that you might enjoy, ‘Bitchin Kitchen’  very good show…here’s one of the episodes

Two: I am grateful to the Book of Secret Rules that Lizzi is reputed to have hidden away in a high tower room protected by … er…. Protectors!! yeah. To the best of my understanding, the only (Secret) Rule that is safe to use is Rule 1.3 which allows, under certain conditions, us to count the ‘completion of the Grat List’ as one of the items (on that list). I mention this for the benefit of anyone joining us for the first time or Readers considering joining in on the fun!

Three: Speaking of the awful world we live in… lol  no, really, I am grateful to Joy over at Comfy Town Chronicles for her post, which serves to remind me of the correct decision I made years ago to simply not read, watch, pay attention to, follow-up on or any other way get caught up in how (unpleasantly) strange the world is getting. (Note: cutting yourself off from the world of ‘news and current events’ in not as easy as it sounds…but is totally worth it!  …just not as easy as you might think.)

Four: I am grateful for the Word Count function at the bottom of this dashboard. It is telling me that I better hurry the hell up! I’m at 674 words and only on Number 4

Five: ‘Work the Rules’?  lol  yes, new Reader, there is much for you to be grateful when reading some of our Posts and the masterly ways we have of bending the Rules…(never breaking!!  no!! no frickin way…I would not want to get ‘the email’  from you-know-who)

Six: I am grateful to Christine and Dyanne for having the last Posts (of the day yesterday). I work on Saturday so the time I have available to read and comment on Posts is, shall we say  disjointed. So, when I get to the last third of the Posts, it’s nice to see these  two waiting… as if to say “oh clark! you look so exhausted, reading all those Posts and even though they are so much better than yours…you continue on!  valiantly Reading and Commenting…our Hero!!”

Seven: I am grateful for the ‘not-in-the-same-room nature of the blogosphere, which means I am relatively certain not to receive an unexpected elbow in my ribs due to my literary flights of fancy.

Ate: grateful to Listress Lizzi, for this here bloghop here. I know I’ve said it before, but the longer this weekend bloghop goes on, the more I appreciate the balance of good solid principles (gratitude lists) and creative writing and a certain element of craziness (“no, you’re welcome!).  nice stuff

Nine: grateful to Cyndi and Denise for calling into the Wakefield Doctrine Saturday Night Drive last night…. a) I learned more about the Doctrine itself from listening to both of them reflect on their recent experiences and 2) I am in increasing awe of the potential of the Doctrine as a tool, a perspective… hearing of their accomplishments is humbling

Tenth: yes, yes I am going to…. (come on! you all saw that coming a country mile away)

* to play short, repeating musical phrases, often associated with a musical group’s warming up  not to be confused with voguing  which is something entirely different…wait a minute, maybe not

** try and come here more than once and get away without learning about our little personality theory

Ten Things of Thankful

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Comments

  1. Nice post holiday brunchy like post today…yes, I also enjoyed the call last night. My challenge is to express (outloud and to other people) my movement forward utilizing the Doctrine (as a tool) coherently as Miss Cyndi:) She is a wonderful example of a clark in motion.
Words…. must find the common language…..

  2. I agree with Denise, we have to find that common language. Not easy with personalities that are mixed and diverse.

    • Hi Michelle! I agree totally. We all seem to be noticing, experiencing/interacting with other people utilizing the Doctrine as a filter more and more. It’s that darned translation into the appropriate world view language that is the challenge. I continue to try and re-express myself in ways that a roger can relate to… Miss your weekly input Michelle, you being speaker for the rogers an all:)

  3. Haha…clark in motion: Picture it now: I’m on my bike in my living room. It’s on a trainer and I’ve gone 30 miles, all while staring at the same tree.** Mootttiiioooonnn. Hahah.
Anyways, LOVE the call ins, LOVE talking to Denise, LOVE connecting with fellow clarks, and…it becomes part of that awesome life journey. :)
**I really am getting a trainer like that, lol

    • No laughing Cyndi. You make the statement about getting a trainor and you’d better be telling us about your fabulous Christmas gift that simply wouldn’t fit under the tree!!
I knew another clark would get that non oxymoron – “clarks in motion” but I’m serious – you are. Lizzi is too although she be crazy in motion. LOL

I really enjoyed the call last night but was a tad frustrated that I couldn’t find the proper words to describe what I have been experiencing these last weeks. Thanks to the Clark for finding satisfactory ones and speaking for me. Just had a frightening visual of me ala Edgar Bergen and Clark as my Charlie McCarthy. AAGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. SO GUTTED I missed Cyndi and Denise (and you, Clark) even though I was having the best most amazing time with my bezzie, can we please, PLEASE have a WDVB soon where y’all come and I CAN BE THERE TOO! I miss youse.

Also, if you like crazy, and you like food shows (your one, girl with turkey fetish? Sucks, btw) you will LURRRRRVE this – check out My Drunk Kitchen – exemplar here – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMQVCxbmtNI

      Lizzi

(good timing)… I missed Michelle this morning (she was there, I was not), but I suggested to her that maybe we can try alternate times for different Brunchettes… the last one with zoe worked (for us, at least…lol) but how does a Friday evening… as late as possible for your (Lizzi) which will offset some of the crazy early for Michelle… I’m thinking we want to try and get Melanie on too… in any event how does this schedule sound: 12/06/13 at 8* pm EST

Hey! Lizzi! what the hell? your comment required approval! any change since… yesterday!

you didn’t like Nadia? I will check out your link..

      * no, zoe I mean it… serially! I won’t change the time…unless…of course we need to adjust between Michelle and Lizzi

      • No I did not! She irritated me from the get-go!

8pm EST…uhhhh that’s your time, right? And when it’s 9am for you, it’s 2pm for me, which is 5 hours, which would make it 1am Saturday morning! EEEK! If I’m around at that time, I can’t guarantee to make any kind of coherent sense, but let’s see if we can make it work. I’ve yet to vidchat with Zoe, and definitely feel I’m missing out there…

    • Miss you too Lizzi! Having been trying to assimilate into the new TimeLine and it’s going slowly.
Glad I have not been forgotten:)
Havent’ been to a lot of blogs I started visiting. Miss them too. I’ve challenged the way things have been. Takes a lot of energy to insist on how things will be…..

  5. zoe says:

so I’m afraid of looking like an incredible lurker as ive been trying to figure out for some time I caught the same problem christine has here. I thought it was my lousy phone but now that I have a new one it’s no better. & I can’t do it through my computer either. For some reason I’ve left multiple comments and none of them show up.

that said sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t so I’m going to try again.

but I’m afraid this come it will lack the wisdom of all my previous ones as I’m getting pissed off and tired. So I will just supposed to say that …really do you count words for your entries every week? is there some sort of the secret rule I don’t know about? I knew about 1.3 but no one told me about the subtext of it I had to find that stuff out for myself so I’m assuming there something I don’t know here. You know just in keeping with my clarkiness.

I am so with you on the food shows…take the competitions and those ridiculous shows were they scream at people in order to remake the place and help them succeed you gotta wonder if it’s kind of like giving religion to the natives I’d love to see them in a couple years. You know jack is okay but we call her “man hands” here…that woman has ginormous hands.

okay I’m going to hit Send here goes nothing!

    • zoe says:

unfortunately it only takes on vacation and I’m an idiot who forgets to look at it before I send it.there are a few huge typos in there….as in I am afraid this time my comment will not be as pertinent or whatever the hell I said……also try to stop and imagine where the punctuation would be in that second to the last paragraph, otherwise you’ll pass out if you read it aloud. I’m sure as a clark you’re intelligent enough to figure this out but you know as a clark I’m nerdy enough to point it out.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      zoe

what are you encountering? (in terms of difficulty having Comments taking?)

…you are Giada jack? lol but, but…. she is wonderful and such a big smile! (yes, you are correct she is totally a scott… in fact! lets see if I can find a video of her and Alton and Bobby Flay… clark and roger, respectively)

  6. zoe says:

    WOOHOO!
    persistence pays off again!

  7. I am totally with you on the cooking shows, Clark. I do not really like the competition ones…but I do like just the straight-up COOKING ones. Not that I ever write anything down or take away much other than a hankering for what I just saw prepared. Which I never seem to have on hand…bummer.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Kris

yeah… though I am not likely to apply anything I see, it’s just plain interesting, if done properly, my favorites being ‘Good Eats’ and ‘America’s Test Kitchen’ Unfortunately the cable networks keep moving shows around and other than Diners, Drive-ons & Dives I don’t see any of my favorite shows on where they used to be me, just these awful cooking contests

  8. zoe says:

so I just attempted again through my computer and I can leave comments elsewhere but not here. I don’t know if this will let me leave a comment either so I’m going to stop here before waste my time further and see if this goes through. In the immortal words of whole ton of people …testing testing.

  9. zoe says:

ok so seems to be a problem with my computer … before I tried my last comment I did a recovery on it to a much happier time and like I said it works everywhere else so I don’t really get it ….
but you asked what I was encountering so that is one thing.
sometimes I have to put in all of my information again sometimes I don’t. But either way it doesn’t seem to matter in terms of whether or not it will take my comments- sometimes it does sometimes it doesn’t. it doesn’t matter if I use my WordPress account which is the skip name …Google Plus account which is my name. Or if I don’t use any account. So if you think you can help great otherwise I’ll comment through work…thanks clark.

  10. zoe says:

    oh yeah, Giada-jack and bacation-dictation…

I am so with you on the cooking thing. Alton Brown had the best show with Good Eats but I’m not so crazy about him with the competitions. As a matter fact I hate them.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      zoe

yeah… I can’t imagine him going willingly, but the marketing guys must have over-powered him…I saw him a few times in the Iron Chef thing, but that was a different kind of competition…not this relentlessly mean-spirited thing that seems to be the thing that the audiences demand today.

(you know, and after this statement I will swing to the other side and extol the value and virtue of the rogerian worldview, this whole thing, the ‘you are such a loser’ is totally rogerian… a celebration of the herd over the outsiders and a rejection of the exceptional as an affront to the (herd)… Vonnegut’s ‘Harrison Bergeron’ totally comes to mind. But that is the end of my dwelling on the negative….)

hey, without rogers there would be no stable society, no constancy of culture and life would careen between desperate excitement and repetitious torpor. Take the discovery and subsequent decimation of the indigenous cultures of North and south America (please!) the problem wasn’t the scotts (even without having actual knowledge of history, lol ) I’ll still say: that the Incas and Apache and Aztec and Comanche all had fighting men, warriors (aka scotts) were in no short supply, overly aggressive, kill or be kill types (counter-parted on the home front by scottian women who would parse the gene pool with a directness that Pauling would envy…the better for toughening up the future generations) and it wasn’t a problem with the clarks (of either culture), clarks have always been there to advise and steer, but our natural predilection is to whisper in the ears of scotts, not rogers (clarks are not dweebs, as the Offspring remind us) because clarks whisper in order to see their ideas get in front of the masses.
      nope.
the problem (for the indigenous peoples) is that their rogers where a step (or two) behind the rogers getting off the boats and the rogers waving the crosses. Technology is what rogers create, the tendency of rogers to revere the past and worship tradition made for better armament. So I would submit that it was the rogerian worldview that produced the means to project force, without which, it would have been hand-to-hand, scott-on-scott and the outcome might not have been the same.

      ya know? lol

      • zoe says:

I’m pretty proud of myself. I only had to reread that comment 3 times. Though truly what threw me off was Harrison Bergeron… I’ve never read more depressing commentary on society in my life. I adore Vonnegut but man, that one just blew me out of the water….so much so that it bothers me to even hear it today.

  11. zoe says:

    Hahaha vacation-bacation-dictation. ….lol.

  12. YES to ‘Diners, Drive-in and Dives’!!!!! We don’t get the Food Network channel at home so if ever we’re away…my older son & I have a Food Network marathon. Haha!!

  13. I’m glad I can drive you deeper into a cave of human denial :) if anything really important happens, everyone will blog about it.
I loved Bitchen Kitchen, she’s amazing. She is a guest on ABC’s The Chew, which I’m obsessed with. Mario Batali is the man. They also have Iron Chef Michael Simon.

  14. Piper George says:

oh – I want to know more about the secret book of rules. So I know which ones to break! :)

  15. findingninee says:

I actually don’t watch any cooking shows, but only because I run out of time each week and prefer shows that don’t make me feel like a loser for being a crappy cook myself. That italian chick is a little annoying, although she’s hot and the stuffing looked really good so I can see why you enjoy her. What’s up with those creepy plastic babies up on the shelf, anyway?
