TToT Saturday Edition the Wakefield Doctrine (” no, don’t worry….it will get weird, just wanted to tone down the Title, ya know?”)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

The is the 19th installment of the bloghop series Ten Things of Thankful.

Started by Lizzi Rogers (aka Considerer),  the Ten Things of Thankful (TToT) invites blog writers and others to share the things, events, people and experiences that have cause them to feel grateful in the course of the preceding week. The format is open, although the recommend list is comprised of 10 such items that engender a feeling of Thankfulness. So every Saturday, we (in this case, by ‘we’ I mean ‘me’) will dash off a list of Ten things that I can imagine feeling grateful for and then I run out the door to work. As anyone who has participated in the bloghop-that-Lizzi-built before knows, the fun is in the give and take, the conversations that grow from the Comments and Replies and, only like other pleasures of life that, while the enjoyment never diminishes, the frequency does… you can come back and see new Comments and Post through out the weekend and…and! if you want to jump into a Comment Thread…have at it. As Aleister would have said,”…do what you will…yo”

Not that I would feel any need to do something different this week, (lol) but here, in b-quotes is a shout-out to people as relating to my favorite Doctrine…every week I hope to find an understanding and appreciation of one of the co-hostini and write about them in a fun and somewhat charming way. Enjoy

So this week a shoutout to: Kristi (who writes exactly as I would, provided I possessed: a) her rhetorical/writing skill; b) a different gender; c) the perspective of a parent (of a human child),  for providing me with the very simple fun of seeing an idea that was in my mind (sorta…a potential the first intimation of a good time, if you will, especially when it comes to bloghops like TMTT or FTSF (and) Christine who, by virtue of the worldview that she would appear (to me) to have* is every bit the encouraging and challenging, frustrating and annoying, helpful and demanding a member of a blogging group  you could hope for, she manages to keep it young and fun and (somehow) despite it all, no one breaks a lamp or spills anything on the couch that will get us in trouble when the adults get home and zoe who, while (relatively) new to the group, appears to have a secondary aspect that is not all that common, at least among the people we have gotten into ‘the conversation’ with so far and, for that reason, holds the hope and the fear that the boundaries of this here Doctrine here will be expanded and (therefore) the understanding of how to put it to the best use as a tool to understand the world as we relate ourselves to it.**

To the List!!

This week’s List of Ten Things. I am thankful/grateful/appreciative/relieved and ‘are-you-sure-that’s-all? for:

1) new insights into the dynamics (including a clearer picture of the role of  ‘re-expressing’ as it applies to reaction of a person of one predominant worldview vis-à-vis a different worldview) of the relationships between a clark and a roger

2) the persistence of ‘spell-nanny’ to try to get me to use the word,  lithe’ when I try to type ‘little’,   as in  ” …while the Principles of the Doctrine are fairly straightforward, it does demand a lithe effort on the part of new followers”  (is it just me or does anyone dream of writing a Post that is built on using these incorrect corrections?)

3) nice weather ( laughter in the room on the other side of the screen you’re reading, ” Items 1 and 2  and then the weather, that’ll get the new Reader sitting up a little straighter in their seats!”)

4) having the previous work week nearly complete, it was, to no small a degree, very frustrating. It was not that there was a tremendous amount of work and frustration, but my response at times was to get really pissed off…at things that I could not control. What made (my response) unpleasant (to me), was that I happen to believe that, we are responsible for how we feel…

5) indulging in negative emotions and getting all mad and such at work, to the extent that when I mentioned to a co-worker that I was less than happy, she replied, ‘I know, that’s why I’ve been avoiding coming anywhere near you today’. I felt gratitude and pride at my accomplishment

6) the Wakefield Doctrine, for allowing me to explore parts of my self that I generally do not pay much attention to, i.e. the emotional side.  (as a self-development tool) I am increasingly impressed at how much potential there is in this thing for bringing parts of my personality ‘on-line’. Having said that, I am impressed by how totally difficult the process is! Simple? yes, (just take the tools of the Wakefield Doctrine and apply them) easy?  lol not even close.

7) my….  collaborators, correspondents,  co-writes, co-hotties, fellow bloggers, co-participants in blogation, friends, with whom, I feel comfortable enough to write an item like this one.

8) grateful for the comfort of the (momentary) delusion that the weather might not continue to get cold and unpleasant

9) glad that my admittedly personalized way of viewing the seasons holds forth the promise that winter will be over in 82 more days!

10 Hey! new Participant!! if you had the foresight to read Posts before trying to write a List, it is permissible  to use ‘finish this list’ as one of the Ten Things of Thankful. Just in case there are any clarks out there struggling.

* Wakefield Doctrine Secret Rule #1.6  ‘your worldview is your(you did not see an apostrophe here, you should have you’ eye’s examined)s to recognize, understand, accept and use as you would, no one can tell you that you are a clark or a scott or a roger…even if they know the answer, it is for you, not them’

** New Readers Alert! sometimes I write things that upon re-reading, I have no idea what I meant  lol  but part of the licentious fun here is I can leave it as it is and (maybe) correct it later.

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Comments

  1. Never been more happy for the weekend and will admit I was so tired by last night, that I crashed by 10 pm and knew my kids were out and safe and sound in their beds. Seriously, just so thankful for the weekend even though I will be busy all day just so needed it if that makes sense. Thanks as always Clark and also wishing you a wonderful weekend now, too!! :)

    • If I were to do a TTOT list I would include you Janine! As a reliable FOTD who has never let the Doctrine down….because, with the exception of only 1 or 2x, you have been the first to leave a comment here always:)
Should I manage to eek out a post this weekend I daresay you shall be my inspiration:)

      Good post today Clark:)

  2. ACK! Then for crap sake and out of care and concern for your anally-retentive grammar-freak co-host, take that extraneous apostrophe out of “yours” in the penultimate line!

Sorry. But I take it as my prerogative to be a pain in the ass sometimes. Cos I know you can take it, and will be able to affix it within some worldview standpoint where it’s (maybe? I hope) less repugnant than it appears.

    BUT

Glad you had an interesting week and that you took notes. Looking forward to hearing more of your insights at the VidBrunch :)

  3. Cool list of thankful, Clark!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

thank you Michelle! I hope you get that hacking problem resolved…what a pain and frustration

  4. I really love the shout-out to Kristi! What a cool idea!

The “spell-nanny” (lol) gets on my nervest, too, that is why I almost never comment from my iPad, where I read most of the TToT post. Because my spell check is for German so it adds an extra layer of annoyance to this!

I also had to grin when I read no. 5 :-)

    Great list!

    Ps: I still haven’t figured out if I am a clark, a scott or a roger :-/

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Joy

yeah, another reason to worry when sending out an email or a Comment, not just mis-spelling, but totally wrong words!

PS not to worry, as long as the Doctrine provides fun and amusement, the ‘rest’ will be there when you are ready…hey! you’re probably only 7 hours ahead of us here… stop by tomorrow for the Video Brunch! (9:30 EDT) we use google hangouts to connect but we also monitor the Facebook in case someone is new to it

    • Joy – I have trouble narrowing it down, too. I’ve been TOLD I’m a Scott. (Even though no one else is really allowed to TELL you what you are – I DO read your stuff, Clark!).

      • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

        Dyanne

(didn’t doubt it for a second)… even being as ridiculously competent as your (putative) type is, heY! who told you you were a scott! lol, I guess to need to flesh out Secret Rule 1.6 a little more about the telling people who they are and such, it still stands, but for this to be fun can’t be anyone imposing rules on anyone else!*

  5. zoe says:

(is it just me or does anyone dream of writing a Post that is built on using these incorrect corrections?) I sooooooooo want to do this! I have been trying to figure out how to do it without driving folks crazy for weeks –soon! So, should I be worried that you’re thankful for a freaky cross between my clark nature and a rogerian soul? Or is that just my clark talking?

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      zoe

not worried (that was for dramatic effect) interested in the insights into secondary (and tertiary) aspects would be more accurate. Most of us clarks ’round here have secondary scottian aspects (no! say it ain’t so! lol) but the presence of a secondary rogerian aspect is different (I know of a couple of people so afflicted*) but I totally want to see more (from the viewpoint of a clark secondary rogerian)

      * lol

    • christine says:

Do it, Zoe!! That would be hilarious, even if it drove us crazy.

I do believe my purpose in life is to keep you on your toes, Clark. It is such fun to do so. :) And no lamps need be harmed.

Only 82 days you say? I’m going to keep you to that. With all the gorgeous weather lately, I’ve been in serious denial that winter is coming. Maybe if enough of us wish it, winter will pass us by this year?

One of my favorite parts of reading your posts is finding all of the new words you have made up. Spell-nanny cracked me up.

And lastly, for the love, can someone tell me why the comment section refuses to remember me?!?! I’m getting mighty tired of writing everything out every time I comment here. I’m not typing my URL anymore. It’s too long and tedious, what with all those stupid dashes I insisted on using. (Not that I’m blaming you, Clark.)

      • Christine. You are a wonderful scottian cheerleader.:) You must already have a substitute for the lamp (shade?) in mind, right? *”right?” she asks hopefully, but not without a little trepidation* lol
Inspiration for a TToT post is right under my nose!

      • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

        Christine

I feel good knowing that… the 82 days? (even though) most people mark December 21 as the first day of Winter, I consider it being the last…the days begin getting longer on that day and while that doesn’t mean I can read on the deck at 7pm quite yet, it actually makes me feel better to know the sun is setting later and later (must be my secondary scottian aspect…being SAD susceptible as it is).

You Comments have been coming through without needing approval (I thank Lizzi for getting me to do that), funny you should mention that..this computer at home remembers name and url but my new computer at work does not! I semi-feel your painlette!

  6. Louise says:

Hey – not a clue if I’m a clark, scott or roger – despite a bit of prelim surfing through your definitions. I think my brain is just a bit done for the day. Enjoyed the eclectic mix of your list and glad what sounds like a long week for you is over.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Louise

Thank you for that… funny you should mention that, it would appear that it (can) be more difficult to identify oneself than it is to see in others the three personality types (of the Wakefield Doctrine). Good to hear from you…

oh! wait, before you go…I just remembered something that Lizzi and Michelle prompted this morning… send us an image (preferably a work of art/painting or photo or sculpture) that ‘speaks’ to you and the Doctrine will identify your predominant worldview*! Actually, that will be Monday’s Post… but you can get ready early?

      • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

        * or secondary aspect!

      • Louise says:

Really, clarkscottroger (forgive me, I’m getting a bit punchy)?

I send you one picture and you tell me who I am?

How does that work? Don’t get me wrong, I’ll send you a picture, You have my curiosity piqued. But I’m just questioning how you go about evaluating the metrics of it all.

Suspects that already makes me a something…

        • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

          Louise

‘By George I think she’s got it!’ lol but seriously in reverse order: c) yes (sorta), 2) if you think you would enjoy it as many do and a) kinda

the Doctrine is predicated on the notion that what we commonly refer to a personality types (or more precisely characteristics of a personality type) are merely the sum total of the successful coping strategies of the individual as it reflects the personal reality that (the) individual grew up and developed and is living in…we add one level to this (premise) and say, there are 3 characteristic personal realities (worldviews), the world of the Outsider (clarks), the reality of the Predator (scotts) and the life of the Herd Member (rogers).
the use of the Wakefield Doctrine comes down to this: learn the external characteristics of each of the three, observe the individual and infer their worldview, or as we say, ‘understand how the person is relating themselves to the world around them’

As to knowing your worldview from a photo, it is true that for those who are practiced enough in the Doctrine it is (often) possible to infer a person’s predominant worldview by a photo however, Secret Rule 1.6 clearly states that no one can say which is your predominant worldview, that is yours and no one else’s.

(oh yeah, quick Primer; those three worldviews? we all have one predominant worldview but never lose the potential of the other two. so as you experiment with this thing, you will find yourself in a position of saying, ‘wait a minute! I must be a new kind of hybrid…I know I’m this type most of the time, but then I am surely the other type too! Sorry guys, I’m afraid I messed up your system!’
not to worry… that is totally normal, we have a place for what we call secondary and tertiary aspects.)

let us know if you have any questions.

  7. Spell-nanny is an AWESOME title! I usually say “that bitch, Siri”, because I use the voice feature of my phone often to send texts and make notes to myself, and she thinks she’s SO EFFING SMART sometimes….

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Dyanne

I do that sometimes with the phone in my car, it offers the option of being allowed to read the number to it (so it can be dialed)…and on excessively clarklike mornings I sometimes mumble (yeah, I know! as if)…and it will repeat the wrong number and I will often start screaming obscenities at it…;p

  8. Rich Rumple says:

Clark, thanks for your patience in awaiting my long absence to end here (and don’t you dare get mad at me, damn it! I’ve had one of those MF weeks too!) :) I even blew up again last night at work. I don’t know what the result will be, nor do I really care at this point. Still, frustration seems to make itself much more present when one is tired. The I-Phone spell corrector has been the reason of so many text messages being sent to correct the corrector, it’s ridiculous. I’m sure the Nanny must be in that class, too. I think next week, I’m simply going to copy and paste your entire blog to see who reads and who scans. Do you think anyone would notice? Great job!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Rich

lol hey wait! (as I clearly stated in a Doctrine-sanctioned secret coded language of the obscure) I am finding my outbursts at work interesting, being a clark and all, but you would appear to have a much better appreciation of ‘things emotional’ than I and so, anything you say on the subject or getting mad at work will be of a genuine help
(Hey! Dyanne!! did I stay inside the lines …Secret Rule 1.6-wise?_

I should apologize for the level of non-coherence in my Comment over at ‘sometimes, granted I have a certain …propensity for the obscure (alright, I don’t always make ‘traditional’ ‘sense’) but that Comment gave me the slip

but in all seriousness, it’s good to have someone around that you don’t have to explain why the brown acid is to be avoided. lol

  9. Kristi says:

Some weeks, celebrating the end of the work week, or just making it to the end of the TToT list is reason to be thankful. Hope next week is smoother for you!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Kristi

this is very true… and like my favorite old time wise old saying would have it, ‘you can’t step in the same river twice’ I will go out there today with a sense of optimism, not in small part as a result of you and the others this weekend.

  10. Wildly entertained by your #5, Clark. Sounds like something I would do.

Nice weather – definitely thanks-inspiring. I would have beautiful fall weather all year if given the choice.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Lisa

lol… the weather (in these parts) is still, ‘not Summer’ but not yet, ‘there is no such thing as Summer’
