F(inish) T(he) S(entence) F(riday) …at the Wakefield Doctrine ( ‘no, I can’t just do things normally, like all my other little friends!’)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Today is Friday, so that can only mean one thing!  OK, if you want to be like that, it could mean a number of things. (Well…the end of the hardly-ever-seen-anymore 5 Day Work Week or the last day of classes, or the night before Date Night or the night that you finally managed to… or the night that you will never forget or the night that you hope to never have to experience again or… or it’s Janine and Stephanie and Kate and Dawn’s ‘hey!-you’ve-been-cooped-up-with-that-blog-all-week! Come-on-out-for-a-while, it’ll do-you-a-world-of-good!’
Finish The Sentence Friday.

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

  1. Awesome contribution to this week’s FTSF and seriously loved your video (I always do). I learned something new yet again, my grandmother was a Scott as far as cooking goes. My grandfather used to get so annoyed, because everything (food) would get everywhere and can still here him teasing/busting her chops!! Thanks seriously Clark, as always for linking up and for all your support of us!! :)

      @Janine

      those scotts in the kitchen! My favorite example of a scottian cooking show hostess is Sandra Lee. She has the (physical) characteristics (eyes, neck energy) as well as the style.
      Actually, now that you mention it, Giada is a scott also! (not as sloppy a cook, but there is no mistaking the eyes).

  2. Cyndi says:

    You’re hilarious, Clark. Clever use of video to incorporate into the Doctrine AND it strikes me as funny that you don’t cook more. As a fellow clark, I approach it as an art form – of course, right? HAHAH. No, really, I get a kick out of finding ingredients – unusual and otherwise – and concocting them into a meal. In fact, for years I used recipes, but I’d always change them and now, I’ve gotten to the point where I might use a recipe as a guideline (maybe to remember ingredients I otherwise wouldn’t) but generally I do my own thing. I am especially good at hearty soups, and I love keeping it simple – I think those kinds of foods taste the best. :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Cyndi

      Yeah, it’s weird I don’t cook but then again, I don’t really like to eat*. But the cooking shows I will watch, just because there is something interesting going on. The show, America’s Test Kitchen, we call ‘the potato show’ because the first time we came across it, they were doing a show on how to make perfect mashed potatos. The thing was, it was not scottian or rogerian, in that they said “here are perfect mashed potatos”, instead they told us what didn’t work and why and the process of finding the best recipe. Alton Brown (Good Eats) is another clark, more of a sense of humor, but all about the information.
      Now, Giada I will watch just because

      * of course I eat food, but I have never developed a enjoyment center about food**
      ** what the hell that means

  3. Looks cold where you are!! Loved this video!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Audrey

      thank you (for the compliment of the video, not the cold weather)… yes, New England*

      *the ‘Wakefield’ of the Wakefield Doctrine is an actual town in RI… a longish story, but funny thing is that most of the videos (on the Doctrine) are from places other than Wakefield…go figure

  4. Emily says:

    Great video and looks like you had a snowy day too (my back hurts from shoveling). I wish my answer was like yours…I hate to cook and wish I couldn’t remember the last time I did. But with three crazy boys to feed, I don’t have a choice.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Emily

      (at their ages) surely that must be a constant process (the cooking)… at least Spring is due sometime next week or the week after (can’t remember lol)

  5. Considerer says:

    You have a great voice to listen to.

    Loving the ‘compliant rebel’ video post :)

    Do you think that the physical ‘Scottian’ characterisations are bordering on the phrenological?

    I guess it depends if we are what we look like or we look like who we are…

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Considerer

      it totally wouldn’t surprise me… I used to love the morphology system of Sheldon (ecto-endo-meso morphs.. which I figure would be clarks, rogers and scotts)… there is a lot of characteristics that are so metaphorical that you think we were making it all up! clarks, for instance, have a slouch to posture (slight gender variation) but most male clarks will have a ‘defensive’ posture most of the time, scotts do the ‘action speaks louder thing’ and rogers, well the saying in the Doctrine is ‘clarks think, scotts act and rogers feel’.
      Thing is, it seems to hold together, these often wildly divergent character traits, and we are still identifying them.

  6. Love this way of participating! “Some kind of noodle product???” HA HA – awesome. So funny…

  7. Dawn says:

    I LOVE the video! You’ve inspired me to do a vlog someday!! I’m thinking when the weather is nicer in MN. I mean, 11 inches of snow is alright (with more to come tonight), but just a little is great (link in your vlog). Thanks for linking up your “view” with #FTSF this week!!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Dawn

      thanks…the vlog was surprisingly simple for me, which is totally surprising being such a photo/video-phobe as we clarks are, but since I have always loved driving, the most comfortable setting is as you see it, holding a little digital video device in my right hand at shoulder height, driving along and letting the camera roll. I bet it would be more difficult if I tried the traditional, ‘sit and look into the camera and talk, approach.

  8. Jennifer says:

    Hey what about those scotts on the Iron Chef?! lol Have you ever seen so much frenzied energy in a kitchen? Of course the show is hosted by Alton Brown. Gotta let the audience know what those chefs are actually doing and the history behind the ingredients.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Jennifer

      yeah, love Alton… not too much a clark, huh? (there is a vid I ran once, will try to find it, which has Alton, Giada and Bobby Flay in it! damn! if we didn’t already have a Doctrine, you could build half of it from this 3 minute tape…)

  9. I love the video, Clark! I found it to be so engaging and fun to hear your voice during the post! (Your speaking voice fits your writing voice, for sure!) I love the driving around, and the hat on the dashboard… again, so engaging! Thanks for your unique contribution- every time I am on your blog, I understand The Wakefield Doctrine a little bit more!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Stephanie

      thanks for having me, the FSTF blog hop is fun…to write for and to get out and read others blogs.
      ..ya know, maybe one of these Saturday Nights we can get you to call in to the Wakefield Doctrine Saturday Night Drive… fun, informative and truly a unique alternative to Sat TV…

  10. What a cool idea! Vlogging while you’re driving. Way to make use of your time, and putting something original out there. Loved the background and the snow…it’s beautiful. Makes me feel closer to it somehow. Great post!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Melanie

      yeah, not sure why it occurred to me (to doing it while driving) but it makes a certain kind of sense, love driving and much more natural and spontaneous feel (for me that is… not a normal thing for a clark to actually want to take picture/video of self, lol). I know you did a video blog back in the fall… you should try the ‘while driving’ it gets a different vibe going entirely (compared to the more normal, set of the camera and talk into it.)

  11. Rich Rumple says:

    Clark, only you would think to use a video blog for FTSF. What a tremendous way to keep people from simply scanning your post! lol I would have expected you to be in the kitchen, though, demonstrating the differences in person, instead of simply displaying the scenery of the season! : ) When you first questioned the definition of “cooked”, my mind envisioned other areas of travel you might visit. I admire the ability to keep a straight face, as I’m sure your mind went to areas better not discussed in mixed company. Great job in applying the differences in simple language. Completely enjoyed!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Rich

      Dude! you totally read my mind (on the branches of conversation)… but damn! ‘my head swells up and face falls’* for not thinking of the demonstration idea… (and that is, in and of itself, a illustration of the difference in worldviews between a clark and a roger. As a clark I saw the relaying of information as the main thing (in the sense of referring to examples on TV which would allow the listeners to get more information) and your rogerian worldview goes, instead, directly to the ‘hello! come one in, let me show you some things and examples of what I am talking about. have a seat anywhere, no! you can just move those magazines onto the floor** find a comfortable spot and we can all see how this works’
      Will have to discuss up-coming projects (as soon as I think of some)

      * a famous rogerian expression to denote a state of embarrassed chagrin (but not so embarrassed as to prevent enjoying the experience)
      ** rogers love magazine subscriptions***
      *** lol excellent! you caught the inference about the subscription as opposed to the magazine
