Finish (“hey!!”) the Sentence ( “I really feel that you should…”) Friday (“well, possibly, if you really want to, I don’t want to be too…”) the Wakefield Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Well, it being Friday it must be time for Friends of the Doctrine ( Janine, Kate, Stephanie and Dawn and them)’s ‘Finish the Sentence Friday Contest’!1

y’all set a spell while I crank up the Wakefield Doctrine word machine and see what we can do. (following are the instructions to participate, you really need to join in, yo)

You know what I think of social media? I think…

…that ‘social media’ is, in terms of its effect/value/influence/ on human society, clearly, far and away the best thing and the worst thing to happen yet to the human species.

Might be best to indulge my clarklike worldview and express it as an analogy: social media is to the need (that is within all of us) to connect with another person as organized religion is to spirituality.

You know what? I am gonna go totally un-clarklike and leave it at that.2

1) yeah gender inflicted characterization. No, I understand that 50.357% of the human population simply miss the quality/requirement/enhancement/chest-beating-goodtime of competition. But we’ll let it go…after all they’re (hey, there’s a finish the sentence fragment!!)

2)  no!  no frickin way!!! he’ll never do it!3

3) you watch, he’ll find a cute and/or clever way to stretch this thing out… this is only 200 words long4

4) no, I won’t5

5) yeah, he says that (and even thinks he means it) but that statement, about organized religion and such? no way he can walk away from that… you just wait and see

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

  1. Clark, seriously loved the inner debate and running conversation you had here and put a smile on my face for sure. Thanks for linking up as always and you actually said it perfectly!! :)

      @Janine

      …I look forward to these Fridays, it has been my allowable day to get out and visit. Thanks to you and Stephanie and Dawn and Kate for dat!

  2. Honestly, I think your analogy about the need to connect and organized religion/spirituality was spot-on. Enough said.

      @Stephanie

      …not that there’s any wrong with organized religion!* lol While ‘social media’ may be a functional development of the blogosphere/virtual reality, I totally approve of what it has allowed me to realize.

      * no need to mention which of the three personality types invented ‘organized religion’ right? hey, they design great planes and where would we be without Ken Burns?

  3. Cyndi says:

    Clark, you’re hilarious! I love how creative you are with the FTSF thing. And social media: totally agree: it’s the best and worst thing to ever happen, LOL.

      @Cyndi

      I used to write (it might even be in one of the first Doctrine Posts, re-printed at least a couple of times) to the effect that, if my great grandfather had the money he might have gone to a typesetter and have the Wakefield Doctrine printed and then stood in the Town Green on a Saturday or Sunday and hand them out and maybe give away 10 or 15 (on a good weekend). The internet says that for probably less than the cost of my great grandfathers first run of pamphlets I can buy a computer and get my version of the Doctrine in front of 50 or 50 million people. Yeah, I’d call that progress…lol

  4. I think we’re on the same track here….it’s the best and worst thing to happen on all accounts! Love the thought process you’ve showed here!

      @Michelle

      That is the amazing (and fun) thing about the thing we have here… you know, lol I am working on trying to figure out how to tie in a Skype account with the Saturday Night Dr, I would love to have you call in on one of our Drives!

  5. Yup. Best and worst thing to happen, in so many ways. We connect online but less in person. Good and bad. Great way to address the FTSF!

      …but I think there is also ‘something’ at work with the increased pervasiveness of all this communicatio. Not the least of which is a gradual redefining of the concept of privacy.
      Enjoyed your Comment.

  6. I like what you say here, “the best thing and the worst thing to happen yet to the human species.” And I agree 100% with you. It’s great to connect and build a reputation, but it’s also bad in the fact that it’s becoming so overrun with rubbish, and it’s hard to find your voice at times. I guess the lesson here is to remember that there’s a real life out there and to find balance. Something I’m trying to do more of. Happy Monday!
