the Wakefield Doctrine, three personality types and (a) way to get the secret fun out of life

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

We said the other day that in the new Year, we will be getting back to doing video Interviews. I was pleased to see that Readers were responding to the idea with Comments that started with,  ‘Sounds exciting, can’t wait until…’  as opposed to ‘the following Restraining Order has been…’. The enthusiasm I am seeing is encouraging and helps me place this (item on the List of Goals for 2 ’13 ) right up towards the top! I want to thank everyone for volunteering (lol), but first should say that it will be towards the end of the month before I have everything organized enough to try the first of these Interviews.

A word about these ‘Interviews’. The word Interview is used in the most liberal contexts when applied to what we have done. (As you will see from the samples below) as with nearly everything that you find in these pages, the challenge of ‘doing an Interview’ is more about trying to do something that I could not imagine myself doing. I am told by the people who were interviewed that they felt the same way, to varying degrees, depending on whether they are a clark or a scott or a roger. We will leave it to the Reader to decide what this means.

So a brief Overview of the Wakefield Doctrine Videos.

  • done while driving (me, not you) as you see in most Wakefield Doctrine video Posts
  • I call and talk briefly before hitting record
  • nothing gets published without the Interviewee (and the Interviewer, for that matter, agreeing that it should)
  • no gotcha shit or questions deliberately intended to throw the person off-balance
  • but yes this is fun, so the Interviewee can try anything they like in the Interview
  • there are questions about the Doctrine but nothing in a quiz or a test sort of way (if you have stayed with us this long, then you know enough about the Doctrine to get through it
  • a time to talk about what you are doing, blogistically-speaking
  • runs about 8 minutes (although as implied in Part 1 of Molly’s Interview if we are both having fun, we can go as long as we want)
So here are a couple of samples.
One of the drawbacks of the ‘new’ Year and it’s attendant Goals and such, is that time is at a premium, so will keep this short.

Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

  1. Awesome videos and was wondering back in your post last week, what was up with the car videos. So was happy to get a better understanding about there here :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Janine

      Yeah, that’s my ‘studio’ at least for the video Posts (and for that matter, the Saturday Night Drives are all done from the car)… I may have made great strides overcoming my natural clarklike aversion to my image (still or motion) but I have gotten into the hat on the dashboard board thing pretty good by now.

  2. Molly Molly M. says:

    Wow! A year of this in my home and I can see the effects. lol

    The scott is more secure in who he is than ever before.
    The oldest little clark is feels free to enjoy being himself and connecting with like-minded individuals (that whole exchange of information really excites him).
    The oldest little roger is much happier since I quit giving him so many choices. It is funny to me how I can say, “This is the way we do it.” And he says, “Okay!” and gladly does it that way, where as the clark will try to show me two other ways it could be done and the scott just shrugs and moves on, without seeming to notice that he was being corrected.

      @Molly

      …very cool. lol (yes, I can hear it off in the distance… “write me! write me!!

  3. Emily says:

    Great interviews Clark…you and your interviewees sound like such naturals on video!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Emily

      (“…check the list, call on Emily…” lol) yeah, I will in all sincerity and no false modesty say that they both made me sound good. This interviewing thing is an interesting challenge… sort of like writing a Post, ‘cept live and one shot.

  4. Amy says:

    I really enjoyed the first video. I think this was the first time I could hear the doctrine in practice with parenting! Very interesting! Glad you picked that one too share. :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Amy

      Yeah, Molly is a friend who really has added a lot to our efforts here at the Doctrine. She is part of the first generation of people who ‘got the Doctrine’ entirely from reading the blog…quite the accomplishment.

  5. Cyndi says:

    Like the others have said, I am looking forward to this. How fun it would be to do an interview! It looks as though the cell phone currently works over the kitchen sink – literally – so I could call and then hope that I don’t drop it in the dishes. *chuckle* But really, this looks fun and I’ll even call it if you’ll have me do it. :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Cyndi

      lol We have taken a couple of approaches, opening the conference call and having people call in or I simply call the person from the car and we talk a bit and then hit ‘record’ and see what we end up with!
