Busy week ahead! (at) the Wakefield Doctrine: ‘the theory of personality for people who hate personality theories’

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the personality theory that proposes that we all live, to a certain degree, in a personal reality and it is the character of that personal reality that determines personality…not the other way around )

First the ‘Week Ahead’, then a little ‘don’t tell me, show me! (with bullet points, if you don’t mind)… una muy buena manera de empezar la semana, ¿no?

¿no? indeed! Lets describe the big two events of the coming week, presented in the comforting embrace of blockquotes.

New!  Semi-Free!! Guaranteed?!?  Announcing the first Wakefield Doctrine Study Hour!
This week we will be starting, on a trial basis, a mid-week Study Hour. This hour will use the same conference call phone number and access code that is used for the Saturday Night Drives. For those not familiar with the Wakefield Doctrine Saturday Night Drive, that is our ‘call-in’ show. Not quite a radio show, almost like a live Post it is an opportunity to talk about the Doctrine in a live forum. The thing most people enjoy about the Saturday Night Drive is that we get to talk, in real-time, about the Doctrine and how it works. Many have said that they get more out of the 45 minutes on the phone than they do in a day spent reading the blog. If you haven’t yet called in, you really should! It’s fun and educational and not too weird.1 In any event, as we all learn more about the Doctrine, it is getting so that 45 minutes on Saturday night is simply not enough time. So… we decided to try a (mid-week) Study Hour. We will use the same conference call number and access code and get together for an hour to see how it works. That way, come next Saturday Night’s Call-in we can kick back and relax, knowing that we put in the serious time exploring this here personality theory here and have earned the reward(?) of listening to Steve say something that totally has everyone laughing and shaking their heads …only to have Jennifer get all scottian on him (lol) and Molly and DS#1 smiling in that, ‘well! DownSprings will be DownSprings!’ way that they have.

(and)

A new series of Posts will be starting this week! It will be exploring and (hopefully) outlining the areas of interpersonal relationships, socially-contexted ephemeral dyadic constants and ‘how-to-say-no’ strategies on which the Wakefield Doctrine might offer fresh, new, and totally useful insights.
We’re thinking that we’ll call the series, ‘The Dating Game and the Doctrine’
Should be fun, so get on over to youtube and study up on the old TV show clips, it will be so a chrono-cultural reference field day for all of us over the age of ‘what’s a PC?’.

Speaking of fun, useful and insightful!  Did you know:

  • the easiest way to figure out which of the 3 types a person is: eliminate the ‘no way they could be’ one and then that leaves you with only 2 types to pick from
  • if you are trying to decide if a person is a roger or a scott (which can be difficult, in some situations), you can count (their) use of personal pronouns! A ton of  ‘I’s’ and ‘me’s’ in an everyday (not accepting an award) conversation means you gots yourself a roger
  • sometimes people, when they first try to learn the Doctrine, come back to us and say, “I get the three types but even though I know which of the three I probably am, sometimes I know am one of the others! Guess this means your little Doctrine is kinda flawed, wouldn’t you agree?”
This is as the Doctrine would have it! We all start with the capacity to experience the world as all three types, at an early age settle into one (‘predominant worldview’) but we never lose the capacity to see the world as the other two types!
  • we’ll send a free Wakefield Doctrine DocTee to the Reader who can tell us which of the three personality types is likely to make the statement cited in the previous bullet point!2

That about wraps it up for today. Stay tuned, y’all

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

  1. Hi Clark,
Was wondering whether I am a roger, scott or clark …will need to really think about this! Thanks for the psychological insight…..will spend some time figuring it out!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

good to hear, (seeing how the Doctrine blog is a bit of a ‘work-in-progress’, in terms of how clearly I can explain the principles), I look forward to hearing how you do with that! We have a saying around the Doctrine, ‘take notes!’, lol but frankly the clarity of presentation has been very much a result of ‘new Readers’, who take the idea and see how well it works for themselves gives us ways to explain the thing even better each time.
(yeah, I am a bit of a clark! lol)
      thanks for Commenting

  2. Jennifer says:

    Welcome Michelle!
I had the same reaction the first time I read the Doctrine trying to figure out which of the three I am. One way of doing it is to eliminate, by means of reading the profiles of the clarks, scotts and rogers, the two that you are not. Don’t feel as though you’re “wrong” because we all have some of each. Initially I thought I was a roger when, in fact, I am a scott. So don’t get discouraged!

  3. Downspring#1 says:

    Hi Michele,
Ds#1 here. I will go out on a limb and tell you….you are a roger.
How do I figure this? Clicked on your name, saw your website, read a few parapgraphs. Nice writing:)
Generally clarks who are new to the Doctrine will already, with near certainty, “know” they are a clark.
You don’t sound like a scott. Your comment is cordial, polite and socially neutral. (this is a good thing!) Clearly spoken as a roger.

@Jennifer. (sound of throat clearing) Think you had a slight slip of the old psychological tongue. You thought, as did I, as did some others think you were a clark. You a scottian woman with a secondary clarklike aspect…impossible to think you were a roger!

  4. Emily says:

The Saturday night drive sounds fun and intriguing…more fun than a lot of my Saturday nights I’m sure. I’m much better hiding behind a keyboard though…maybe one day I’ll be brave and check it out!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

sounds good Emily, we’ll be glad to hear from you whenever you feel like calling us! These Saturday Night Drives are fun and useful in that as good as the written word might be, sometimes all it takes is, “hey! wait a minute! suppose I think I know which of the three personality types I am, how can I be sure?”
But after all is said and done, and despite what a useful thing this Wakefield Doctrine thing is, it is meant to be fun. So we will be there ‘in the car, surrounded by Wakefield*’ whenever you feel like calling.

There is a recording that comes on when you dial the phone number (but before you are prompted for the access code), as a matter of fact, if you call that number at any time even when we are ‘not there’ I like to think that the greeting gives you a sense of the tone of these Drives.
Good to hear from you! Any questions about the Doctrine, do not hesitate to ask!

  5. Downspring#1 says:

Glad I could stimulate some conversation. lol

  6. Wow, thanks, Downspring! Will log onto the blog and find out more!

  7. Cyndi says:

Um, I still pretty much see the world as a clark. LOL. I’m just grinning because I felt like I could tell right of way I was a clark, though there were some exceptions…like when I turn the “extroverted switch” on – I had to learn that out of necessity b/c I grew up in a VERY extroverted family and I was the only introvert and OMG can I even begin to tell you about some of the misunderstandings that went on? OMG – one year my older sister didn’t talk to me cuz she thought I was “stuck up” – which couldn’t be farther from the truth. :\ LOL. Oh well. Awesome post!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      hey Cyndi!
that phrase ‘didn’t talk to me cuz she thought I was “stuck up”’ totally resonates Doctrinistically-speaking!
I have a recollection, back in the earlier days of the development of the Doctrine, when someone mentioned another person in my office and said how ‘stuck up she was’, and I watched her (the stuck-up-ee) for a while and 2 things became immediately clear: a) she was a clark and 2) she wasn’t stuck up, she was busy… in a place that simply did not show to the others in the office. lol

…the hell with the effort to present Doctrine concepts in any kind of orderly fashion: you can spot clarks by the eyes, there is a look, a focus (not all the time, just a lot of the time) when it is clear they are somewhere else and posture(!?!) is also a good indicator…more later

(then there are the eyes of the scott, but I gotta save something for tomorrow’s Post! lol)

      fun

  8. Jennifer says:

@DS1 Truth be told the very first time I read about the 3 types I thought I guess I’m a roger because they’re the accountants (among other things) and at the time I was a Full-Charge Bookkeeper and Asst to the Controller of a manufacturing company. I was being too literal. But I quickly disregarded that notion because nothing else fit. Phew! I dodged a bullet…

  9. clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

Anyone feeling like “what the hell! that Wakefield Doctrine personality thing does sound kinda cool, and those DownSpring people seem pretty nice and all, maybe I’ll them during this Study Hour … it’s being held on Tuesday afternoon…at 4:00 pm EDT, for crying out loud… how much trouble can I get into? I think I’ll call them!”

the phone number is 1-218-339-0422 the access code is 512103#

we’ll save a seat and a yellow pad with a #2 pencil for ya

  10. Steve Crabtree says:

Damn. Call in and you can learn something. Just follow instruction, call in, and you can learn so much about how Roger men go for, nevermind. Just call in, it’s fun and You, yes YOU, can learn something. It’s a good start to getting a grip on your label and throttle. aha ha ha, another Rogerian joke.! Love the manly stuff!
Call in, maybe you will understand more AND get a cool cap!
    Damn, can’t beat that!
Learn to deal with intellectuals and rednecks at the same time!

    Yee hawwww E=mc2

    DOG-BOY Steve ( a Roger)

  11. Cari Lorine says:

Hi Clark! I’m relatively new here, too, and curious as to which personality type I might lean toward. I’m sure I’ll figure it out as I keep reading. I’m looking forward to the ‘how to say no’ strategies you have coming up!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

Good to hear from you, Carie! We are always happy to hear from new readers, mostly ’cause it helps me get ideas how to better explain the concept behind the Wakefield Doctrine. We have lots of descriptions of how (the 3 types) in everyday situations, and the Posts are sort of what we like to think of as a conversation about the Doctrine.
There are a couple of tricks to figuring out which of the three your ‘predominant’ worldview is, clarks, scotts or rogers.
…here’s one I personally like…(being a clark, and all) if this viewpoint makes total sense, to think to yourself in the morning, “ok I’m here and the world is out there”… then you might want to think you are a clark. If you are attracted to groups, hobby gatherings, quilting bees (whether or not you are cold) or anything even hinting at Civil War Re-enacting you might be a roger….

Occupations can be clues, especially if they are something that comes naturally to you and you (consciously or otherwise) love what you’re doing:
clarks: school teachers (especially elementary school) nursing, physician (but not a surgeon)
scotts: gym teachers (or any specialty, provided it is high school), sales, physcian (surgeon), police officer
rogers: accountant, chemist, lawyer, teacher (college level), finish carpenter, fire fighter

everything (like the above list of occupations) is a starting point, to see if it feels right. Then see if you seem more like one than the other.

Or call us on a Saturday Night or ask a Comment question…

  12. Downspring#1 says:

Hey! Wait for me! LOL Where do I start?! I’ll make like a roger and start at the very beginning:)

@ Michelle – You’re welcome! Hope you do. You’ll find the Doctrine is fun as well as challenging and you get to meet some great people (here) along the way.

@Cyndi – ditto what clarkscottroger said! I can totally relate to everything you said. The extrovert thing? I call it the wearing of the hats. I was a shy person growing up, definately not outgoing, not very adept at “social” conversation etc. What a surprise that, early on, I worked in retail. LOL If you came in off the street at any given time you might wonder at how outgoing I was, so friendly etc. blah, blah. Deep down I think many clarks exhibit “thespian” characteristics. A result of an overactive imagination I suppose. I always believed that if I wasn’t so shy, I would love to be an actor.
Hey! Look at my use of pronouns! I am so proud of myself. Steve! How’d I do sounding like a roger. Was there enough “I’s” in there. Molly ! What do you think?:)

I’M (lol) almost finished……@Cari – can’t really tell what you are but the fact that you are interested in the “‘how to say no’ strategies” makes me think you might be a clark. If not predominantly, then certainly as secondary aspect. Hope to read you back here soon!!

P.S. Anybody get the answer to the question? Good post.

  13. Downspring#1 says:

“■ we’ll send a free Wakefield Doctrine DocTee to the Reader who can tell us which of the three personality types is likely to make the statement cited in the previous bullet point!2”

That was the sentence that was made……

  14. Cyndi says:

That is such a clark who asked that question. They’re the ones who do the questioning…more so than the other types, I think. Heck, you yourself asked the question. HAHAHA. Enjoying your blog!!

  15. clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

    Cyndi

how’s the Title ( of pictimillitude) in the Doctrine blogroll ( —-> ) look? I can add more, ( “I said. Go there!”) or I can grow up a bit and simply have a Title lol
